General Thoughts
I was looking at the wrap-up I wrote for 2024 and had to smile at my past self having written, “an unexpected side-effect of compiling this masterlist is that it’s gotten me very excited for the next round of Three Sentence Ficathon”—because the exact same thing happened while I was compiling the masterlist this year as well! Apparently, there’s nothing quite like being reminded of what I wrote for a previous round for stoking the fires of my excitement for the next round.
Beyond that—while I did work on a few “personal” fics, it’s looking like everything I actually posted were for a fandom event of some kind. This concerns me because, over the past few years, I’ve been finding myself moving further and further away from exchanges—aka, what used to be the main kind of fandom event I participated in—and I’m honestly not sure if I’m going to be signing up for any exchange in 2026—but I don’t want that to mean that I’m not writing either.
So, I think in 2026, I’m going to try to find or rediscover a new rhythm for my writing outside of the context of events. I think I did a decent job of this back in November, when I was working on my (still currently unposted) Rose of Segunda fics, but I want there to be more of that in this coming year.
That being said, I don’t want it to sound like I feel negatively about my fic output this year—I don’t! In fact, I wrote a fair number of works that I was quite pleased with <3 I really liked quite a few of my 3SF fills, and beyond that I was also particularly proud of “Left in the Silence” (FE: Awakening, Say’ri & Yen’fay), “it pours from your eyes and spills from your skin” (Naruto, Itachi/Sakura), and “rubies and ichor” (Greek Mythology, f!Hades/Persephone), amongst others.
Finally, small shout-out to Dias/Rena having been my most written ship of the year! I’d almost forgotten about having fallen down that particular rabbit hole this summer—they were a childhood OTP of mine, but I’d never written for them before, and in fact found the idea of doing so rather intimidating. And then I wrote four fics in the space of… I think it was something like 1.5 weeks? Wild and delightful. Though, speaking of which, playing through the Switch remake of SO2 is on my gaming goals list for 2026, so maybe I could tackle more Star Ocean fic as well…? We’ll see what actually happens, but the thought does appeal.
