115 | Mystic Messenger update: Jaehee's Route, Day 06

More on my playthrough of Jaehee’s route in Mystic Messenger: The plot’s started up, and I have to say, I’m really liking it! It seems to tie in more with the overall plot than Zen’s route did.

Overall, I think my reactions to the last day or so of Mystic Messenger can be broken into roughly three categories.

First… there were more of those weirdly meta moments (like the one I mentioned with V at the end of Zen’s route). Two of them, to be precise. The first one was with Seven-- he said, “A visual novel gives u at least two options, but being a slave to money only gives u one option”, and then one of the answer choices was “This game isn’t a visual novel, but it gives you more than two options”. I went with the other answer (which I kind of regret now), so I don’t know how he reacts similarly to V to you blatantly pointing out that this is a game, but it definitely stood out to me.

(He also made a comment about Zen’s “HP filling up”, but I think that was just Seven being Seven, haha.)

The other moment was with Jumin, and no, it definitely has not escaped my attention that these moments have happened with the Deep Route characters + the one with no route. Jumin’s didn’t have an answer choice attached, but he does tell the main character apropos of nothing, “Don’t play the game too late.” So.

Second, JAEHEE AND DATING. I loved, loved, loved Jaehee’s wtf reaction to Seven suggesting that she needed to depend on finding love rather than her hobbies to find “true” happiness, and I especially loved her saying that dating isn’t important to her. I could really relate to her saying that. ♥

I did get really, really annoyed at Yoosung when he said that he was worried, because soon Jaehee was going to get “too old” to get married. And I was definitely disappointed in Zen for slightly agreeing with him, though at least he was (in my opinion) not as bad about it. Speaking of which— I loved that the main character could defend Jaehee in that.

She said, “I think you two are just prejudiced to think her age will restrict her chances for love.”

My reaction was pretty much “omg [name] you’re awesome”. ♥ (And then I laughed, because Zen’s reaction was exactly the same.)

Third… for being (what I’m pretty sure is) a friendship route, I’m getting a hell of a lot of shippy vibes??? And weirdly enough, it’s mostly OT3 shippy vibes between Jaehee, the main character and Zen?????

First, those text messages. It seriously feels like Jaehee and the main character are being flirty in some of these.

Case One:
Jaehee: Mr. Han has sent me a croissant sandwich for lunch.
Main Character: Just a sandwich? He should prepare a feast for you!?
Jaehee: Tasting all the dishes will take a lot of time then.
Jaehee: But… you can spend that much time with the other person you are eating with. I’d like to have a feast if I’m eating with you.
Case Two:
Jaehee: Seven seemed to have fun teasing me earlier.
Jaehee: He won’t know the joy and sorrow that comes from the smallest gestures of an actor you admire.
Main Character: I’m always happy from every gesture that you make. >///<
Jaehee: That’s what I wanted to tell you. I thought I was the only one...
Jaehee: I’ll try to make sure the joys don’t turn into sorrow. :)

SERIOUSLY.

And then there’s the OT3 vibes?? Zen and the main character keep bonding over how much they like and respect Jaehee (and, in one chat, how cute they think she is!!!), and there was this amazing moment during a phone call where Zen said, and I quote, “Please take care of her for me. There’s this invisible wall between us… you’re closer to her.”

And then there’s the main character and Jaehee’s mutual concern over Zen… When Zen gets hurt, the characters kept suggesting that the main character or Jaehee or both be the one to visit him… and then when Jaehee goes, she says in another phone call, “It’d been nice for you to come too… but since I’m the one here I will do my best to watch out for Zen.”

(And then she tells the main character to be careful, because it’d be “horrible” is something happened to her while she [Jaehee] is taking care of Zen. ♥)

Idk. It’s mostly small details that I can’t really name, but the end result is that I’m finding myself going, ‘omg, I want this ot3”, which. I would have never expected while playing Zen’s route, haha.

Finally… this doesn’t really fit into any of my categories, but I had to go WTF when Seven told the main character that someone had been poking around into the security system, and then told her it would be safest in her apartment. I mean. This is definitely the info from Zen’s route influencing me, but what the hell, Seven. You know what would happen to her if someone managed to trigger the system! Why the hell would you say that it’s safer to stay there???
