119 | in which I play: Mystic Messenger, Pokemon Moon, & Pokemon Go
► It’s been awhile since I’ve done a Mystic Messenger update (or any update at all, for that matter). Since I last updated, I've finished Zen’s Normal Ending, and am now playing Yoosung’s route. I’m currently on Day 7. My thoughts:
First: Zen’s Normal Ending. I… liked it so much more than his Good Ending??? No public embarrassment AT ALL, and the press conference was so much more professional, and exactly what I wanted from the Good Ending!
Also, holy shit the dress the MC wears to the party is super hot. If she wore that in Jaehee’s route… well, let’s just say that it’s now my headcanon that Jaehee (who is clearly oblivious about the romantic bent of her feelings for the MC :P) saw that and was struck by a sudden feeling of OH NO SHE’S HOT, and that’s why her dialogue in the ending was pretty much entirely FRIEND FRIEND FRIEND DID I MENTION THAT WE’RE FRIENDS NOPE NOTHING MORE GOING ON HERE.
I didn’t have too much to say about Yoosung’s route at first. I took advantage of now having the max speed button to zoom my way through the previously-read portions of Days 1-4 (though I slowed down from any new-to-me Yoosung options).
I have to say, though, I cringed so hard on Day 5 when Yoosung called, and started being blatant about his feelings for the MC. Logically, I know that Zen was so much worse about all of this (he doesn’t even wait until his own route to start!), but it turns out that I actually really do see Yoosung as a kid, even though he’s a college student? So that + the immersive quality of the game = me being really creeped out by all of this.
Speaking of probably-creepy things, I am so into his whole obsession with Rika, and how his interest in the MC starts from him projecting Rika onto her? Like, I’m pretty sure he’s going to move beyond that for the good ending (especially since I am choosing all the “I’m not Rika” options), but I have to say, I am very intrigued by all the possibilities for Yoosung’s Bad Ending 01. (And am cautiously intrigued by the idea of Yoosung/Rika, especially if my theory about her not being as squeaky-clean as she seems pans out.)
There was a conversation on Day… 5, I think it was? which I found super relatable. It was the 18:25 chat, “A way of releasing anxiety”. Funnily enough, I missed that chat (and had to pay hourglasses to play it) because I was hanging out with a friend that day— and, around that time, we were talking about pretty much that exact subject.
I was super surprised that Zen injured his leg again in this route, despite it not actually playing a role in the main relationship this time. Zen’s injury = the only universal constant. (At least in the Casual Story. Idk yet about the Deep Story.)
Also, THE KITTEN. I want the kitten. Barring that, I guess Yoosung getting it is fine, haha. I also loved Zen’s reaction to Jumin striking him out as a possible owner (despite agreeing with the assessment), as well as how he 100% agrees with Jumin also putting Seven on the “does not get the cat” list.
Zen: “I have no desire to raise a cat and I don’t even like them…”
Zen: “But I still don’t think it’s right to give the cat to Seven ;;”
I love how adorably supportive Zen is being of the MC & Yoosung’s relationship. ♥ (Also, ha— in my notes, I wrote “Zen being supportive of the MC & Zen’s relationship <3” by accident.) And his worrying about the MC if Yoosung doesn’t stop trying to see her as a replacement!Rika… ♥ (Though I adored how hard Jaehee shot down/chastised him when he tried to joke about ‘taking the MC away’ if Yoosung doesn’t shape up— especially re: her “Since women are not objects to be owned”. Go Jaehee!) His giving advice to Yoosung was also sweet (even if Yoosung didn’t appreciate it)— I really like their friendship.
Also, Jumin called after the last chat I played before writing all this, and I loved the whole thing. First him accidentally calling the MC when he meant to call Jaehee… and then hints about his relationship/attitude towards Yoosung! (Especially in regards to the ending in Jaehee’s route, but also his promises to him in general.) At one point, he said, “He may seem like a little kid, but he’s smart, so you should look forward to his future.”
Just… He actually seems to have a lot of faith in Yoosung’s potential? And I found that sweet.
Speaking of Jumin, I feel like I got more fuel for my ‘why he’s so fixated on Elizabeth 3rd’ theory? At one point, Jumin says this in the chat:
Jumin: “I just don’t have anyone I desperately want to keep by my side.”
Jumin: “So I understand the anxiety that comes with being alone.”
Finally, Seven broke the fourth wall again…? It came up that Zen doesn’t like Jumin because he “reminds him of someone else” (not a direct quote), and after pushing Zen about this for a bit, Seven then said, “But don’t talk about ur past in Yoosung’s route.” (Direct quote.)
In other news… Cheritz has released a Valentine’s After Story for (I presume) all of the characters. Since it’s an After Story (which unlocks once you’ve beat a route), I’ve only been able to play Zen and Jaehee’s stories so far. I did Jaehee’s first, then Zen’s. My thoughts:
Jaehee’s Valentine’s After Story was pretty cute! And, honestly, pretty damn shippy for all that it wasn’t explicitly romantic. She called the MC pretty! Got locked in a room with her and got intensely emotional with one another! Fork-fed each other cake!
Though I do want to know wtf Jaehee was doing with that rolling pin in the CG.
My overall reaction to Zen’s Valentine’s After Story: eh, liked the Jaehee one better. There was just too much celebrity stuff in there for my taste. At least the MC could say that the rumors didn’t bother her in nearly all the conversation options… except for one, which, blech.
I did genuinely love the MC’s options when the reporter on the TV got too annoying, though.
I wanted to share a screenshot of it, but for some reasons I’m having problems transferring images from my phone? It worked before. =/ But now, for whatever reason, I’m only getting the “charging” thing and no usb options. But, basically, the choices were these:
► I’ve also started playing Pokemon Moon! It feels weird, waiting this long to play a Pokemon game… I haven’t been playing a whole lot, though— currently, I’m on the second island. Honestly, I can’t remember a Pokemon game ever being so slow-starting? At the very least, I don’t remember every being so frustrated/feeling like I just want to get going on my adventure already, why are you wasting my time with stuff like this trainer school, and that + my being unable to find a Pokemon I wanted to add to my team until I was nearly finished with the first island made my first few hours not much fun for me. But I persevered, and now I’m starting to genuinely enjoy it, so.
I went for Rowlet as my starter, because he is adorable, and also because you know that there is something seriously wrong with the grass starter if I don’t pick it, because I nearly always pick the grass starter. My only exceptions have been Bulbasaur (Charmander girl all the way ♥) and the one from X/Y, because ugh ugh ugh. My only other party member is Oricorio, whom I now adore.
(I was tempted by Vullaby, but, uh, that would too many flying type for one team, and I was not so intrigued as to be willing to ruin my party composition, so. No. )
I also belatedly found out that Alola Vulpix is Sun-only, and now I’m sad about that. I mean, I like Sandshrew a lot! But it’s not my precious Vulpix. :( It doesn’t help that my older brother (who got Sun) is pretty reluctant to play it right now, and so I’m probably definitely not going to be able to get one from him. And my little brother (who actually did play the game, and is actually finished with it) also chose Moon, so no luck there either. AGH. I want Alola Vulpix to be one of my main party Pokemon, too. :(
► Finally, today I (finally) started playing Pokemon Go! I’m slightly surprised that it took me this long post-new phone to start, and also still slightly sour that my having an outdated phone before kept me from playing when it was all new and everyone was super-excited about it. But I still had fun.
Of course, I messed up right away— I accidentally got Bulbasaur instead of one of the other two starters, agh. But I decided to try to make the best of it— I don’t mind Bulbasaur in and of itself, and I do like Ivysaur, in any case, so it’s not entirely terrible.
I found my first wild Pokemon literally on my doorstep— and it was a Growlithe! ♥ AND THEN THERE WAS AN EEVEE RIGHT OUTSIDE MY NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOUR’S HOUSE. And there was a Ponyta right by my vet’s office! (I ended up finding one more Growlithe, and two more Eevees and Ponytas along the way.) That was all pretty excellent. I walked for quite a while (two hours— I actually got a bit lost on the way home, in the sense that I didn’t know exactly where to go, but I muddled through well enough.)
I tried to catch at least one of every Pokemon I saw because I’m a collector at heart, and multiples of the ones I really like (because I’ve gathered from osmosis that you need multiples for… evolution? Or something? idk), though I did give up on a Duduo because I had no desire to waste so many Pokeballs on something I didn’t even like that much.
I feel like I saw a pretty decent assortment of Pokemon. Some I think I saw more often were Exeggcute, Meowth, Geodude… maybe Pidgey, Sandshrew (♥ ♥ ♥), and Abra too? I only saw one each of Venonat, Starmie, Krabby, Clefairy, Nidoran ♂, and Pinsir (and Duduo).
I also wanted to share some screenshots/pictures from my little adventure, but, like I said when talking about Mystic Messenger above, I’m having problems getting pictures from my phone to my computer. ._.
Also, I’m… out of Pokeballs now. ^^;; My only excuse is that I really sucked at catching Pokemon at first before I figured out (mostly) how it worked.
Oh, and I joined Team Mystic because 1) I liked the flavor text, 2) I liked the leader’s design well-enough (though I also really liked the Team Valor’s leader’s design too…), 3) I like Articuno (...though I also like Moltres a lot ahhh I never could chose between those two ._.), and 4) because I really liked cool colors in general and blue in particular.
