120 | in which I reach Day 10 of Yoosung's route in Mystic Messenger
► I’ve reached Day 10 of Yoosung’s route in Mystic Messenger, and wow, what a ride.
I liked this version of Seven telling them about the bomb so much more. I was just… really amused by the whole conversation? And I know that they never find out about the bomb in Jaehee’s route, but I found myself wishing that this conversation had been in there, because really, it would have fit in so perfectly.
Some highlights (since I can’t share screenshots at the moment):and made me want to play his route already, agh.
One thing I found interesting: this time, it wasn’t mentioned that it was Rika who chose to have the bomb installed until much later.
Yoosung’s route has so much more main plot info than the other two Casual Story routes. I mean, it makes sense, considering his connection to Rika/how much her death affected him, but it is a bit frustrating from my perspective that all of this plot stuff I find super-fascinating is linked with a romance I really don’t care about.
….Also, Yoosung’s route is making me ship him with everyone EXCEPT the MC. On a completely unrelated note, I think I now ship Yoosung/V. What can I say, that VN portion where they meet up was very good for me.
Speaking of which: it was pretty obvious that Yoosung’s depressed, but it still hurt to see him be blatant and upfront about it when he blew up at V. T_T
I was also very struck by Yoosung’s worry for V when he discovered the truth about his eyes, and his whole speech about how stupid it was to sacrifice himself out of grief. He’s right, of course, but it was interesting to see the… lack of self-awareness, I guess you could call it? He’s horrified by the idea of V basically throwing his life out of grief, but Yoosung was basically doing the same thing, albeit in a much more indirect way.
Also, I want connected-by-grief!Yoosung/V.
Moving on...I’ve never seen Seven mad at V before. His blowing up at him in that wrong number phone call really was… something. A sample: “I understand, but if you keep calling me like this, you’re only interfering with my work. I told you that on our 23rd call. Listen to when people talk! Computers always do, so why can’t you?!”
I really appreciated that some of the characters (Jaehee, wondering, and V, actually checking in on it) briefly questioned the MC’s motives again, because it makes so much more logical sense than them just blindly trusting her, considering how they all met.
I also really loved how the characters started grouping together/staying with one another for safety reasons— especially Zen staying at Seven’s place. (I loved how he referred to it as “the safest place on earth”. On a related note, I have discovered a newfound love for Zen and Seven’s friendship. Zen worrying about how tired Seven looks… ♥ And there was this beauty of an exchange as well:
Another gem from that same phone call: “Do you know what’s funny? I got pissed and banged on the door, and it said ‘Oh, you’re going to make me explode!’ I got so surprised that I just ran away. I mean, how can a door threaten you?”)
The email Jaehee received… looks pretty much exactly like a white copy of the invitation I got in the VIP box. I’m curious about the reason for the color difference… I do wonder why V told Seven to tell the others that the email wasn’t anything to worry about.
Also, Seven trying to protect Yoosung. ♥ And his not wanting to tell anyone where the hideout is because he doesn’t want anyone to follow him. ♥ ♥ ♥ And then he goes back to being silly. Or half-silly, as it were.
Around this point I decided to call Jaehee, since I have the unlimited calling card now, and she answered the phone with this gem:
I also tried to call Zen, but he was busy. Speaking of Zen, I was very struck by a later chat when he was talking about how he’d have so many regrets if something happened to the members of the RFA— specifically, in regards to Jumin. He didn’t actually say that directly, but it was pretty obvious that it was that he was hinting at if you’ve played his route. That Jumin would be his biggest regret— yeah, that was definitely an interesting character detail.
Speaking of Jumin, I think this exchange with Jaehee was also very telling:
I’m also wondering if Seven and Unknown are maybe siblings? They’re clearly connected to one another, and when I look beyond coloration they do look a bit similar. And it might help explain a little about why Unknown seems to feel so betrayed by Seven.
► The other day my big brother sent me a link to an article. He does this often (as in, multiple times a day often), but I found this one particularly interesting: Why It's So Hard To Make Games In China.
All of the games mentioned in the article looked pretty interesting. One of them, Hazy Days, was both free and short, so I downloaded it and played it. I… can’t say that I enjoyed it, precisely, but it was definitely thought-provoking, and I think I would recommend it playing it at least once. If nothing else, it’s an interesting example for how video games can be used for more than just entertainment. And it is really short— I didn’t time it exactly, but I think it took me maybe ten minutes to complete the entire thing.
► On Pokemon GO: I saw a Vulpix for the first and only time yesterday, but didn’t have any Pokeballs. D: What is with this Vulpix-related bad luck I’ve been having lately.
I did finally figure out how to get free Pokeballs from Pokestops, though, so that was excellent. And there seem to be a lot of Pokestops down Main Street, though the bit where they really begin to cluster together is a pretty far walk from my house, so.
Something that amused me: the local military school has a gym, and that gym is being held by Team Valor. Somehow, I am utterly unsurprised.

Some highlights (since I can’t share screenshots at the moment):
Jaehee: “What happens if it’s activated?”And then when Seven tries to reassure the MC:
Seven: “That’s…”
Jaehee: “Do security guards come running?”
Jaehee: “Does the alarm ring?”
Seven: *posts picture of an explosion*
Seven: “I’ll do my best so u don’t become a bomb victim until the party.”Though then Seven actually gets super sincere with his apologies and reassurances, which I found really sweet
Jaehee: [blank-eyed stare sprite]
Jaehee: “This is really horrifying.”

Zen worrying about how tired Seven looks… ♥ And there was this beauty of an exchange as well:
Zen: “If it’s Yoosung, Seven or V will do anything to protect him.”(Also: Zen calling the MC and asking her if she knows how to speak Arabic. ♥ I love Seven’s security system. Just saying.
Zen: “They’re both the type to sacrifice themselves to save others.”
MC: “Seven’s like that too?”
Zen: “Yeah… Don’t you think so?”
Zen: “That’s why he tried to go himself.”
Zen: “He is a weirdo who says strange things and appears selfish…”
Zen: “But all he does is give.;;”

Seven: (in a chat bubble surrounded by hearts) “It’ll be less lonely to die with someone else.”The whole exchange between Zen and Seven when Seven and Yoosung left was golden. So was Jumin deciding to quote lines/phrasings from romance novels he thought applied to Yoosung & the MC’s romance. (...Is he going to do this in his route too? ….I’m not sure if I want the answer to be “yes” for the amusement factor, or “no” for the embarrassment factor.)
MC: “Die!?”
Yoosung: “... Die?”
Seven: “Half kidding.”
Yoosung: “Only half!?”
Around this point I decided to call Jaehee, since I have the unlimited calling card now, and she answered the phone with this gem:
Jaehee: “You have reached Jaehee Kang, Director Jumin Han’s Chief Assistant. I am currently out right now, oh wait, it’s you.”JAEHEE YOU DORK ♥ ♥ ♥ Also, those texts when she writes about how Elizabeth 3rd is trying to comfort her were so cute, omg. Please give me more cats being adorable, game.
Jaehee: “You caught me trying to pretend to be the voice mail system.”
I also tried to call Zen, but he was busy. Speaking of Jumin, I think this exchange with Jaehee was also very telling:
Jaehee: “It’s a bit ironic that there are secrets in a deeply trusting relationship.”The confrontation between Unknown and Seven raised so many questions. I know that my working theory has been “Rika is alive and joined this religious organization”, but now I’m wondering… did Unknown maybe kill Rika? At the very least, one of the lines he said seemed to hint at that, so. Still doesn’t explain what Rika did to him that Unknown was so upset about, or what V has to do with any of this.
Jumin: “Truth sometimes intimidates and tortures people.”
I’m also wondering if Seven and Unknown are maybe siblings? They’re clearly connected to one another, and when I look beyond coloration they do look a bit similar. And it might help explain a little about why Unknown seems to feel so betrayed by Seven.
