128 | in which I reach the end of Jumin's route on Mystic Messenger

I beat Jumin’s route on Mystic Messenger yesterday!

I have to say, Zen redeemed himself a little bit at the end of Day 11. I’m still not happy about his prior actions, but he made a very good point in a conversation between him and Jumin.
Jumin: I have to point out one more thing before I leave.
Jumin: “I noticed while reading past messages”
Jumin: that Zen is talking as if I’ve ‘imprisoned’ you…
Jumin: “Of course I kept you at me side for a while…”
Jumin: “but he seems to be jealous.”

(cutting to after Zen enters the chatroom, to when he addresses Jumin’s comments)

Jumin: “Zen, why exactly do you have a problem with me?”
Zen: “You want me to be straightforward?”
Jumin: “Yes.”
Zen: “Then let me say this.
Zen: “Listen carefully.”
Zen: You both are in the relationship.
Zen: But you always put yourself first at the center of your decisions.
Jumin: “Center of my decisions?”
Zen: “It’s dangerous if you say so,”
Zen: “ it’s safe if you say so,”
Zen: “she has to stay until dinner if you say so,”
Zen: you’re the one who decides everything!
I agree with him, and while I'm still not pleased with how he expressed his concern, I’m feeling less antagonistic about it now that I know that it wasn’t just him being jealous/lashing out at Jumin.

I was amused, though by how Jumin was so convinced that Seven was still keeping a secret and that the apartment still wasn’t safe.* Amused, because my initial reaction was “overprotective, much?” before I remembered: wait, the apartment has a bomb in it. If only Jumin knew how right he was to be suspicious, ahahaha.

*He said this multiple times, but my favorite was during a phone call, when he said, “And… if my guess is right, Rika’s apartment, which is a part of RFA’s secret, cannot be completely safe.” I repeat: Jumin, if you only knew.

I genuinely hated that Jumin changed his icon to a picture of the MC, because I found it so confusing. I use the profile icons to keep track of who’s talking— I never look at names— so when the picture was of someone else entirely, I kept forgetting that it was Jumin who was talking.

Seven continued to depress me. I feel like he was much more open about his problems in this route than he was in any other, though— even moreso than in Yoosung’s route, though I suspect that’s because in Yoosung’s route, he was too busy feeling guilty to open up to the RFA. That chat, where he opens up to the MC… it was just incredibly depressing, how he talked about how he was living life like a “shadow” and that the chat is “the only place I’m allowed to talk about my feelings.”

I found what he said about Unknown particularly interesting.
Seven: I… have to pretend I don’t know that person and run away.
Seven: “Because.”
Seven: “I’ve become someone that no one can remember!”
Seven: “It’ll pointless to meet again…”
Seven: “since we’ll just end up hurting each other.”
Seven: “But…”
Seven: “he was… never supposed to be there.
Seven: “He was…”
Seven: supposed to be happy.

(skipping forward a bit)

MC: “He must be… very important to you.”
Seven: “...”
Seven: “A shadow like me that can never have any substance”
Seven: cannot afford the luxury of having these feelings.
Seven: “But he remembers me…”
Seven: “I’m sure of it…!”
Seven: “From yesterday…”
Seven: “I’ve been looking”
Seven: “for someone who others remember even after their death.”
Seven: “People who are famous, great figures who have a lot of people missing them even after their death.”
Seven: And I found a mummy.
Seven: “I can’t imagine how someone who died thousands of years ago can exist the same time as us.”
Seven: “They are dead… but I’m jealous that a lot of people now are studying what they did in their lifetime.”
Seven: They might be dead but they’re treated differently than me.
Seven: “That’s why it’s so funny…”
Seven: “But I found the contact of someone who’s presumed to be a mummy.”
Seven: “I want to know what it’s like to be remembered even after death…”
MC: “It’s a bit sudden, but why don’t we invite him to the party?”
Seven: “I… want to see the mummy.”
Seven: “Since I can’t ever”
Seven: have a real name like the mummy in his lifetime.
Seven: “I know that the mummy is not like me…”
Seven: “haha”
Seven: “but I’d be glad to see him at the party.”
Seven: “I’m acting really weird, right?”
Seven: “Looking up mummies... jabbering nonsense…”
Seven: “and not explaining everything to anyone…”
Seven: “The world does not seem logical to me right now.”
Seven: “The only person who can fix the error inside my head”
Seven: is V….”
Seven: but he’s not taking my calls
Seven: “Why isn’t he answering my questions?”
Among other things, that’s definitely a different perspective than what we got on Zen’s route about why Seven was interested in the mummy.

(Jaehee worrying about him later on was really sweet, though. ♥ Ditto with Zen.)

On a lighter note, Jumin suddenly realizing why people get married, and his whole conversation with Jaehee really amused me. Especially Jaehee’s, “Mr. Han; You should not be proposing to her through messages.”

Ultimately, I’m not really happy with how Jumin’s relationship with Elizabeth 3rd was handled (especially when he tells V that she was basically an expy for Rika for him, ugh.) But I’m not going to linger on it.

I do wonder who Unknown was talking to at the end. I thought it might be V, but I’m unsure. I found the following lines very intriguing:
Unknown: “Did you come because you still love me?”
Unknown: “Or… to protect the RFA?”
Other, minor notes: I was also really amused by how flustered Jaehee got when Jumin thanked her. So many typos! Zen encouraging Yoosung to accept the reward money because “You deserve it” when Jumin offered it was very cute. Operation ship Zen/all the guys is a go. Also cute: Seven telling the MC at the party that she “can’t download just any app from now on, alright?”— with what looks suspiciously like tears in his eyes.

As for the Good Ending itself— I was praying that Jumin would not trigger my embarrassment squick like Zen and Yoosung did, and he failed me completely. :( The CG I got out of was very pretty, though; I liked the MC’s dress.

Jumin’s After Story… was cute? I loved the extra Yoosung-is-a-total-sub support we got there, and the MC’s sweater in the CG was adorable. I kind of want it. Jumin’s hair looks good, but… I’m wondering why he suddenly styled it differently??? Especially since it seems that the After Story takes place not that long after the ending, unless I misunderstood what they meant by their surprise about how Jumin and MC got married so quickly.

I also played Yoosung’s After Story, since I realized that I hadn’t done it yet, whoops. To my surprise, I actually liked it a lot! Not for the pairing, but for how it shows Yoosung’s future. I like him being a vet, and glasses actually suit him really well. The MC seems to agree with me about that, haha.

I’ve started Seven’s route instead of doing Jumin’s bad endings right away, mainly because now that I’ve gotten so close, I’m suddenly incredibly impatient to reach the end and unfold the rest of the mysteries still remaining. There’s not much to say yet, as I’m only on Day 1.
