132 | Mystic Messenger: the end of Seven's route!
Mystic Messenger update: I WANT TO SCREAM. I just finished his After Ending, and there’s still so much I want to know! The truth about Mint’s Eye, and V, and Rika!* And does Seven ever manage to rescue Saeran????? I honestly did shriek a bit when it was revealed at the end of the After Ending that everything about Saeran interacting with the RFA, etc. was all a dream— I mean, I did think it was a bit too easy (and was going, but wait, we didn’t get the dramatic rescue mission! D:), but I didn’t think it wasn’t actually real. Ahhh.
*I’m guessing that’s going to be in the After Endings, and I’m going down those next, but I want to update this first because otherwise I’m going to be overflowing with things to talk about. I already have no idea how I'm going to organize my thoughts about everything else so far (outside of my usual “semi-chronological based on screenshots & some notes”).
I’m seriously so invested in Seven and Yoosung’s friendship, omg. ♥ I loved their fight— Seven deliberately being cruel to try to cut him off, Yoosung’s “Unless you erase my memories, I will never be able to forget you!”, Yoosung’s crying to the MC on the phone immediately afterwards— and their reconciliation. The 707-esque apology! Yoosung finding himself repeating one of his mom’s lectures! So cute. And then, later on, when he tells him that even if things don’t work out with Saeran, the RFA is his family too— Ahhhhh. ♥ Honestly, Yoosung in general is amazing in this route. I might not ship him with the MC, but as a character he’s excellent. ♥
...I’m trying to limit how much I directly quote in this update, but. I took so many screenshots of Yoosung’s heartbroken crying phone call, and I just have to share those lines. Have to. They’re so good, and give me so many Seven & Yoosung feelings. So have some of my favorite bits:
I was genuinely distressed when Seven broke the robot kitty! Thankfully, he fixed it in the end, and his apology was really sweet and genuine. ♥ Also, ugh, crying Seven does so much for me. ♥ The only thing superior to it is blushing Seven, which, omg, so adorable, I am dying. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I’m really glad that we found out what’s in that floppy disk that’s so precious to Seven— I can’t even remember anymore which route it was when Seven mentioned it, but I know it was a while. Also, it made me heartbroken. Those cute pictures of Saeran;;; I wonder when they were taken, though, and what’s the story behind them, considering he clearly had a terrible time of it after Seven left. Also, Seven having nightmares about his childhood. ;_;
Speaking of heartbreaking: Seven’s confrontation with Saeran, anyone? It does make me want to scream that everything hasn’t been resolved yet, but I do love the first steps taken. Seven showing Saeran the floppy disc;;;; AND THEN VANDERWOOD KIDNAPPING SAERAN BECAUSE SHE THOUGHT HE WAS A DISGUISED SEVEN yes yes yes, this is the quality h/c content I am here for. Agh, I hope that the rescue shows up somewhere in the secret endings; if not, I am going to be very disgruntled.
AND THE V & SEVEN CONFRONTATION. V SHOWING UP AT THE MINT EYE HEADQUARTERS. SEVEN TELLING HIM THAT IF HIS EYES ARE REALLY HURT, HE HOPES THAT HE DOES GO BLIND so that no one can be “fooled by those sincere looking eyes.” And this: “Say something with that noble mouth of yours you promised so many things with!”
I’m still holding on to my “Rika’s still alive, and is the savior Saeran was talking to” theory, but it does look like none of the characters are considering it— it looks like that, if they have a decided opinion on Rika and V’s connection to Mint Eye at all, it’s that V had more to do with it. Which… I don’t quite buy it. We’ll see how it goes, but I do think V’s “Yes… This is all my fault for loving her” line after the Seven & V confrontation does lean closer to my interpretation of things. I do think that Yoosung’s completely wrong about his “V must have manipulated Rika into it!” theory, considering… pretty much all of the Rika &/or V-related VN segments. (Also, Rika has the creepiest smile.)
Also, wtf at V’s non-explanation in the chat later. I really thought he was going to confess, and that at least some of the secrets would be revealed! But instead he piles the blame on himself, explains nothing, and quits the RFA. Agh. I mean, it does make sense for V’s character, but still: agh. I want to know already~! Though, I will say that I found the following to be genuinely heartbreaking:
On a cuter note, I love how it becomes a thing that Seven and the MC call each other when they’re in the same room / general vicinity. I also love the hints that the MC… is a bit bolder, than she is in the other routes? I definitely got the impression that she’s more experienced than Seven through some of the phone call options— which wouldn’t be too hard; it’s Seven’s first relationship, but so many of the other routes stressed the MC’s innocence, which did bother me. (There was one phone call option that worried me, where both choices were variations on “what’s a sadist…?”, but the one I chose at least turned out, based on Seven’s reply, to be her faking innocence in a teasing way, so.) tl;dr I’m really into their relationship dynamic. I’m going to give in and quote a tiny bit of one of their chats now.
I mentioned in the other entry that I was starting to get some MC/Seven/Jumin vibes, and… that definitely did not disappear. Honestly… I think an argument could be made for the ending days of Seven’s route having hints for pretty much every variation of Seven/MC/Other LI? I definitely took the Seven/MC & Yoosung interactions as platonic, but I can definitely see how someone might read it as romantic, what with Yoosung directly saying that he loves Seven, Yoosung turning to the MC for emotional support, and Seven saying that the MC and Seven are really similar.
As for Seven/MC/Zen, well, just look at these lines from one of the phone calls. I was actually prepared to be annoyed at first because I thought Zen was going to go on one of his ‘all men are wolves BE CAREFUL’ speeches, but then… this happened:
But there was also a lot of great Jumin/MC/Seven moments! Mostly in regards to Jumin openly worrying about them (even Jaehee mentioned how concerned he seemed to be, and how rare that is for him!), and talking about how he wants to protect them, and so on. He even specifically says that he’s nervous when Seven and the MC are locked in that room. And he helps the MC help Seven calm down! And Seven being so touched by Jumin saying his name— Saeyoung— in his speech at the party…. ♥
(Speaking of which: I was initially surprised when I realized that Seven & the MC were going to be missing the party in this route, but it makes sense. My only frustration is that they didn’t find Saeran during the portion of time when the party was going on, which was what I thought was going to happen.)
This is less OT3-y, but I also really enjoyed Seven and Jaehee’s interactions, and the contrast between her earlier annoyance with him and how concerned she becomes later on. How she says that without Seven, the RFA would feel very empty… So good. ♥ And then there was their bonding moment post-Seven & Yoosung’s fight, when Seven said that he “could see how much you thought of me” to her, ahhh. Love it. Love it so much.
I’m also super happy about the Zen and Yoosung interactions at the end of Day 10! Yoosung going to Zen’s place because he doesn’t want to me alone! Zen telling him to “hurry” over! Yoosung getting drunk and super affectionate!
As for the After Story: I mentioned above that I was surprised by how easily Saeran seemed to integrate into the group, before it turned out that it wasn’t real. That kind of made all of my commentary about those interactions a moot point, but I will say that I kind of loved how Zen seemed all ready to set Saeran and Jumin up together after Saeran mentioned that he’d never had much interest in women.
And that’s the end of Seven’s route! Next up, the Secret Endings? (I think that’s what they’re called, at least. I can’t check right now.) I wanted there to be a bit more to this entry— mainly in regards to some other media I’ve consumed recently— but I’m too impatient to get back to the game and finally get my answers. Everything else is going to have to wait until next time.

V: “Then, don’t hesitate and just hate me.”And then everyone’s subsequent feelings of betrayal, anger, and heartbreak;;; Jumin in particular really got me. It hit him hard enough that even Zen was worrying about it. Zen! (I mean, it was nice for my Zen/Jumin-shipping heart— he tried to be a source of support for him! He invited him out for drinks!— but it does speak to how hard Jumin must have been struck by all of that.)
V: “In the end, it’s all my fault”
V: “that everyone’s having such a hard time.”
V: “Thank you so much for being so loyal until now.”
V: “Please just…be disappointed in me.”

It was my favorite!— but his reasoning makes sense. I definitely get why he doesn’t want to use Luciel, considering his initial reasons for choosing it, though I like that name too…. Though, honestly, all of Seven’s names are pretty great. ♥
