134 } Mystic Messenger April Fool's Event, Take One
► I did my first playthrough of the Mystic Messenger April Fool’s Event yesterday, and now I’m ready to talk about my first impressions! (Since each playthrough takes a day, and there are three endings, I decided to space it out to playing it the day before, the day of, and the day after 1 April.) Overall, it was pretty fun! And it made me forget that I actually dislike April Fool’s Day, at least until I went online today and was reminded of that again again.
First and most importantly, I LOVE THE CARDBOARD SEVEN. SO CUTE. Not just the cardboard ambassador stuff (though I loved that too), but the actual image of the cardboard!Seven.
I couldn’t resist; I ended up having to make one of my own:

Isn’t he adorable??? I kind of want to make one of each of the members of the RFA now.
I fell in love with this event pretty much immediately? The Star Wars-esque opening scroll started it, and then everything about the first chat of the day sealed it. So many cute Seven/MC flirting possibilities;;; I ended up with one of the normal endings yesterday, and, after looking up the requirements, it looks like it was because I couldn’t help but play along with Seven’s silliness, and then decided to use that as my tone for the rest of the day.
I also really loved how… suggestive the dialogue got throughout the whole event? So many double entendres…. This event was really great for Seven/Jumin, Yoosung/Zen, Seven/Zen, and MC/Most Of The LIs moments in particular. Especially Seven/Jumin, imo— I know it was supposed to mirror normal!Seven’s obsession with Elizabeth 3rd, but when projected on someone who can talk, and using lines like “If it’s Jumin, I could give him… my whole body…”, it’s hard not to read it as being intentionally suggestive.
Small, but great moments as the day went on:
Zen’s slow mental breakdown sure was… something. Which led to what I didn’t like about this event: all the secondhand embarrassment I got from Zen at the end. Him trying to be a plaster bust and Yoosung telling him he was still getting it wrong was painful enough, but the whole part of in the ending where everyone went back to normal and Zen kept talking about dimensions and being a plaster bust was even worse;;; I also have no idea what to make of that ending. I thought at first that it’d really been a dream, since everyone comment on how they could reach Zen all day, and that they’d wanted to have a party for him. But Zen seemed to… have actually become a plaster bust at the end? So was the others’ inability to reach him because he… idk, ended up sliding into an alternate dimension or something? Or maybe I misunderstood something? Agh. I’ll have to get the other endings and see.
I did enjoy a lot of the thought bubbles, though they didn’t really match up with what was going on during the day. (Maybe because they were from the in-game!universe, while the events of the day were from the other dimension? IDK.) I probably loved Seven’s plans to prank Vanderwood best, but Jaehee’s musing on whether Jumin would take her resignation as a prank and Yoosung being cautious about accepting food from anyone were also excellent.
Finally, I’d like to share a couple of Seven/MC moments! Because I am utterly predictable, and also because that’s probably my favorite MC pairing in this game. (Partially because Seven is my favorite, and partially because Seven!MC is the one whose personality I feel like I have the best grasp on.)
First, there were some excellent stuff about trust going on in the phone calls. In one call, Seven says, “Still, I’m glad to know that you trust me, haha.” In another, he says, “I shouldn’t be telling anyone this—-but oh whatever. I trust you.” Characters trusting one another. ♥ My own true kryptonite.
AND THEN. THIS CHAT.
► In other news, yesterday I found out that, holy shit, Honey Buddha Chips are real. ...........I don’t even like chips and I want to try them. Damnit, Seven!

Small, but great moments as the day went on:
- I just about died laughing at Yoosung’s, “Zen… What’s wrong with you? You act like you’ve never seen a talking omelette before.” It’s not even my usual sort of humor! But for some reason it really worked for me.
- Zen worrying that this might all be a psychic dream of his = ♥
- I really liked that moment when the delivery man asks if he’s famous (because he saw the mailbox overflowing with fan letters, and Zen replies with, “Not really, haha.” It was… surprisingly (but pleasingly) modest of him?
- Jumin being addicted to catnip, ahahahahahha. And Zen’s genuine concern for him! I loved this line: “If you’re walking down the wrong path, it’s part of my responsibility to make sure you’re okay!”
- Seven trying to infiltrate Jumin’s office through the mail, and Vanderwood taking revenge by marking the envelope as advertisements. Just. Loved everything about that.
- On a similar note, everything about the Jumin and Elizabeth 3rd role reversal, especially in regards to how that changes how Jaehee and Seven see Elizabeth! Jaehee’s quiet gratitude vs. Seven referring to her as his “enemy”.
- Seven telling the MC (in a phone call) about Jaehee’s past as a “passionate salsa dancer”— all a lie, of course, but a fun one. (In this second playthrough, I asked about Jumin, and Seven went into an in-depth description about how Jumin secretly spends his free time leaving hate comments about his competitors on the internet— equally unbelievable, though not as fun as Jaehee’s.)
- In the same phone call, this Seven/MC moment: “I wish my crystal ball could show me your past too.
- YOOSUNG’S VORE FANTASIES, and Zen trying so hard to be supportive but also unable to hide just how completely weirded out he is by all this.
Yoosung: “I…”
Yoosung: “secretly dream of the day of”
Yoosung: “being completely gobbled up by my significant other…”
Zen: “Uhm…”
Zen: “I’m sure there’s someone out there for you…” - THE APPEARANCE OF UNKNOWN. Just. Everything about that moment was golden. How the MC could (and, in my case, did) ask him, “Unknown, why didn’t you reply to my text after the prologue?” How Unknown seemed to be mirroring the prologue of the game with the “lost phone” trick. How Zen completely scared him off with his talk of being a beautiful plaster bust. Seriously, there was nothing better than Unknown’s sudden, “Sorry. I think I found the wrong IP address.”
- On a similar note, Unknown’s valiant-but-ultimately-doomed attempt at making a joke in his texts afterwards.

Seven: “Would you like to…”Aaaaaaaahh. Insert flaily hands here.
Seven: “give me an intense back rub?”
MC: “Just wait till you see what my nails can do.”
Seven: “OMG~ You’re so aggressive, MC!”
Seven: “But that’s how I want you…”
Seven: [blushing hearts emoji]
