176 | 2017 Gaming & Writing Year In Review
► My 2017 writing wrap-up post can be found here.
► I’ve stumbled a bit on my usual (and planned) end-of-the-year posts—as in, I haven’t made most of them. I’ve made a short list of my yearly favorites, but haven’t gotten around to doing all my usual graphics, etc. for them, and...quite frankly, don’t really feel like doing it? I know I’ll miss it in the future, though, so I might make a backdated post for it later on.
► But what I will do right now is a gaming update on 2017.
First, questions:
A game released this year (2017): I think Liar! Office Deception came out earlier this year?
A game you can finish in a day: I’ve played a few, but I think Hazy Days is probably the shortest of those.
A game you've been meaning to play: If Final Fantasy VII doesn’t apply here, I don’t know what does.
A game chosen for you by a loved one: ...None this year, I think. Oops. My poor big brother.
A game you've previously abandoned: Definitely Child of Light! And I ended up really enjoying it in the end, so I’m glad that I went back.
A game that intimidates you: None of them, actually.
A game you've already solved at least once: There’s three—my second playthrough of Bastion and Fire Emblem Awakening, and my third playthrough of Star Stealing Prince.
A game with an unusual control scheme: I’m going to take a slightly broader interpretation to this question, and say her tears were my light. I was pretty impressed by how it manipulated usual VN mechanics to tell its story.
A game you should have played when it was first released: Dragon Essence, mainly because I used to always play Zeiva games the day they were released, and have been slacking on that. (I still have one unplayed! I don’t know myself anymore.)
A game released before 1990: None.
A game you'd owned for a long time but had never played: I’d owned Dirge of Cerberus for a long time—since high school, I think.
A game that has been the subject of controversy: ...Probably Dirge of Cerberus, again.
An award-winning game: Quite a few of them! I’m going to go with one that I haven’t highlighted yet, but really loved—Transistor.
And now, the total list:
