228 | I've forgotten how I usually title my entries, whoops
It’s been a while since I last did anything close to a proper update! A long, long while… ;;;;
Reading: Slowly rereading Mother of Learning. Other than that, I’m actually pretty behind on a lot of the cnovels I’m following… I think the only ones with recent updates that I’ve managed to keep up with are Fantasy Farm, Don’t Pick Up Boyfriends From the Trash Bin, Those Years In Quest Of Honour Mine, and Peerless.
Listening: revisiting TAZ Balance; I just finished the “Pedals to the Metal” arc.
Playing: Pokémon Conquest
Watching: A lot of sewing videos on Youtube.
Writing: Basically nothing, as of late! But I’m determined to start my Relationshipping assignment this weekend, and I also need to start my piece for Iddy Iddy Bang Bang at some point.
► Yesterday afternoon, I read through volume 8 of So I’m A Spider, So What?. I don’t have too much to say about this one (outside of my generalized sense of horror at Kyouya’s situation), but I was struck by Sophia’s reaction to his Kin Eater title. Specifically, how she seemed to find it utterly inexcusable regardless of extenuating circumstances*. I can’t remember, but did she never Appraise White before White lost access to the skill system? Because White also had the Kin Eater title, so….
* That being said, she doesn’t actually know the extenuating circumstances, so I wonder if her perspective will change if/when she finds out the truth. It wouldn’t be the first time that she took a seemingly firm, judgmental stance on something, then faltered when someone pointed out key information or a different perspective.
► Like I said above, I’m slowly rereading Mother of Learning—and I do mean slow; I’m only about nine chapters in. I’m enjoying the beginning a lot more than I did the first time around; it helps that I know where this is going (and how good it’s going to get), so I can appreciate the groundwork being laid down a lot more.
One thing that struck me, though, was the realization that Zorian’s natural aptitude for mind magic is foreshadowed in the very first chapter, when he’s moaning and groaning about how much he hates crowds. I had a very “!!!” moment when I read that. (There’s also a bit in chapter 8 where it says, “Zorian could practically feel the anxiety and agitation of the crowd steadily rising”, and I went, “uhh, actually, that’s pretty literally happening” at him, haha.
Also: I haven’t reached the introduction of the Red Robe yet, but rereading this and relistening to TAZ Balance at the same time made me realize that both canons have significant red-cloaked figures referred to as Red Robe(s). Which in turn has me turning over crossover potential...
► I was going to do some gaming talk, but I think I’m going to try to get a bit further in Pokémon Conquest before I start whining about my disappointment in it. I also should really do a summation on my thoughts on Fire Emblem Fates (which I finished playing a few weeks ago) before I forget more than I already have, but I really should go start cooking lunch, so I’m going to cut this off here and hopefully get to it next time.
