248 | initial thoughts on the high rollers: aerois podcast

I usually like to listen to podcasts while doing dishes (and similar mindless, low noise tasks, though tbh that mostly ends up being dishes), and recently I started on a newish*-to-me D&D podcast, High Rollers: Aerois. I’m not that far into it—currently, I’m most of the way through the fourth podcast episode, which is the second episode overall since each episode seems to be split into two parts—and I’m liking it so far.

I’m having my usual new podcast struggle of telling the characters apart. The characters that stand out to me so far are Lucius (delightfully whiny spoiled useless daddy’s boy who is in no way prepared for the slightless hardship; I love him so so much), and Sentry (guardian paladin made of wood/metal/stone), though the only player I can reliably tell apart is Lucius’, mostly due to that distinctive character voice. And also because of the whining.

I absolutely mix up Sentry’s player with the other two women all of the time, and so exist in a state of confusion as to who is doing what. I know that I’ll probably learn to tell them apart eventually as I listen more, so I’m not fussed about this, but it is a thing right now. There’s also an Aarakocra with only one wing who stands out to me a little bit more than the other two, though his name isn’t firm in my mind yet.

I did look up a list of the player characters yesterday, which did help me out in that I’m now clear on how many characters there are in the main cast, as well as their races/classes. So it’s just A) learning all of their names and B)—the harder task—recognizing which voice belongs to which character.

But, yeah. tl;dr first impressions are that Lucius is standing out as an immediate fave with promising potential for character development and I’m charmed by the very cool concept that is Sentry’s character.

I like the OCs they’re working with too, and I’m curious if they’ll manage to find/save that dwarf guy. Also, this was just such a great line from the DM: “If you want to spend an hour sobbing, I will count that as a short rest.” (Related to Lucius, of course.)

…Also, fun fact: I spent this whole entry writing “Lucian”, before deciding to double-check whether that’s actually his name, and oops, nope, it’s Lucius. He feels like a Lucian, though…

*newish, because I did get maybe 15-20 minutes into the first episodes some years ago, but I just wasn’t in the mood for a D&D podcast at that particular time, so I saved it for a later date.
