118 | in which I get the Mystic Messenger VIP package!
► Since my last update, I’ve only watched two episodes of Critical Role— parts three and four of Trial of the Take. I at first thought I wouldn’t have anything to say about them other than “I liked the other half of the party’s adventures better”, but there were a few things that happened in the latter half of part four that really caught my attention.
I have to say, I too was distressed by the death of the magic carpet. And how Vax is torn between mourning and going, “oh shit my sister is going to kill me for this”, ahaha. (I loved how you could hear Vex’s player’s reaction from off-camera.)
But more importantly, that moment when Vax killed the Rakshasa, omg. My attention was already piqued when the Rakshasa threatened the people that all of them love, especially re: Vex, but I swear, my heart definitely did something when Vax stabbed it in the throat, said, “Talk about my sister again” in this super-threatening tone (!!! ♥ ♥), and then pulled his dagger out and watched as it died.
Just, I am so here for super protective siblings. Yesss. ♥
The Kashaw/Keyleth kiss took me completely off-guard, but it delighted me. Which is not to say that I ship it, because I don’t, but I loved that particular moment. “You might be the most annoying person I’ve ever met in my life.” *kiss* *walks away*
The reveal that that was Keyleth’s first kiss was just the icing on the cake. It was like something straight out of a shoujo manga and I loved it.
Also, this is completely unrelated to the characters/plot of Critical Role, but there was this moment when one of the guest Wills (as himself, not in-character) said something along the lines of, “Crocheting is fantastic!”, which. Considering that my Critical Role-watching time is generally also my crocheting time, that definitely made me smile.
► I now have obtained all of Jaehee’s Bad Endings in Mystic Messenger! Some brief commentary:
Wow, if Bad Ending 01 was the Zen/MC ending, then Bad Ending 03 was the Jumin/MC ending… I mean, I know it wasn’t explicitly romantic the way that the Zen/MC pairing in the first bad ending was, but there was definitely some tension. This was also the least bad of the bad endings, imo, since Jaehee also gets a happy ending in this one. Also, Jaehee being so worried about the MC’s well-being was so sweet. ♥
Bad Ending 02, on the other hand… :( It definitely hurt to see Jaehee so utterly broken down and defeated. I do find it interesting that this was the one ending where Jumin was finally ready to really bend for her— but it was too late.
► In other Mystic Messenger news… I didn’t mention this before, but sometime in the middle of January, after I beat Zen’s route, I decided to buy the Mystic Messenger VIP Package. This isn’t actually much of a surprise, despite my usual thriftiness: I have a huge weakness for soundtracks and a slightly-smaller weakness for art-or-guidebook-type things, and all the in-game benefits [unlimited phone calls!] just confirmed it for me.
The estimated shipping time was something like twenty-one days, so I didn’t expect it until sometime in the middle of February— which was why I was so delightfully surprised when it showed up today! I impulsively decided to photograph my unboxing, so I’m going to share bits from that now.

The actual box! With a pretty South Korean shipping address. ♥

I know that Cheritz is the name of the company, and that it’s not uncommon for companies to put their own names on their packaging, but I still found this somehow adorable.
Within it was this box...
...and also these two pieces of paper (posters?). Side-note: when I first saw these, my first reaction was, “shit, I don’t speak Korean!”
And then I turned them around and saw this, haha.

Now to get back to the main event— the box itself. I really liked that sealing sticker.

The box opened. You can’t see it super clearly in this picture, but messages from the characters are scrawled on the interior of the lid!

Another cute sticker! Little touches like that were all over this package. ♥

Carefully peeling the wrapping away...

A note from Seven! ♥ I ended up tucking this into the inside of the CD case.

The actual VIP card! After I finished taking pictures, I immediately loaded the code into my game to get all of the paid benefits. ♥ It came with a lanyard/plastic protection, which I found really cute. You also get the IDs of the rest of the cast!

I wasn’t as interested in this, though I have to admit the packing is pretty. It’s a “freetalk” with the voice actors, with a translation of it in the little booklet. If it’d been like a drama CD or something like that with the characters, I’d have been into it, but I have negative interest in creator-related details for things. (Hence my intense disinterest in celebrities/celebrity culture in general.)

Just wanted to show how pretty it looks inside the case.

The guidebook! I haven’t looked too much into this yet, but it looks like it’s full of all sorts of interesting character details.
The intro page on Zen.

The other book! My picture of the first page turned out super blurry, but it’s basically a spoiler warning for if you haven’t completed the game, which I was grateful for. I’ve laid it aside for when I finish going through all the routes.

A pretty little pile. :D I put everything except (obviously) the CD soundtrack and the note back inside the box for safe-keeping. (I know that the VIP card is in the picture, but that’s only because at the time, I still needed to put the code into my game.)
There was also a bookmark that I decided not to share my pictures of, because I didn’t really have much to say about it outside of, “look, here’s a bookmark!” I also didn't share any individual pictures of the soundtrack CD because I realized too later that they'd all turned out blurry, and I didn't want to go through the song-and-dance of retaking them.
tl;dr I’m super pleased with it! I definitely want to wait until I’m 100% finished with the game to dive into the books, but I’ve already loaded the CD into my computer, and am listening to it now.
