► I… accidentally marathoned Yuri On Ice? Which is weird, because for the longest time I hadn’t even intended on watching it at all. But a few months ago I saw a gifset of the kiss on tumblr and was struck by… how nicely it was framed? (I’m talking about this shot specifically.)

I resisted for a while longer, for various reasons, but then the other night I was feeling drained and bleh and not up for much, and none of the (many, many ._.) anime series I’ve stalled on watching seemed quite like what I wanted, and so I decided that I’d try out one episode. One turned to eight that night, and then I finished the following morning.

I… hm. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this series? I mean, obviously, I liked it, or else I wouldn’t have watched it all the way through. And obviously I found it compelling, or else I wouldn’t have watched it all at once. But beyond that, I’m having a hard time nailing down what my exact feelings are. What’s mostly throwing me off, I think, is that… I don’t really feel fannish about it? Which certainly happens to me, but not with canons I marathon-watch.

I loved the ice-skating. There was a lot I liked about the show, so it’s hard to say, but watching the different routines (and how, with the skaters we saw more than once, those routines evolved and changed over time) might’ve been my favorite part of the anime. I don’t really know anything about ice-skating beyond what I picked up from watching this, but I definitely had opinions about which routines I liked and which ones I didn’t, haha. ...My making a list of which ones I liked and which ones I didn’t would probably be more time-consuming than I'd like, so I won’t, but I will say that Georgi’s short program was hilarious and amazing, and I was kind of disappointed that he messed up the free skate, if only because I would have loved to have seen it again.

Yurio / the Russian Yuri was probably my favorite character? What an adorable ball of rage. ♥ I especially like his interactions with the other Yuri (Yuuri?). In general, though, there weren’t any characters that I didn’t like. I liked all of them, and I liked watching all of the different interactions everyone had with everyone else.

Though, on a semi-related note, I had mixed feelings about J.J. getting bronze at the end instead of Otabek. I did feel a lot of sympathy for him when he messed up, but Otabek’s performance was just so much more enjoyable for me to watch*, and it’s not like he didn’t really want it too.

*I mean during the Grand Prix, specifically.

And...that’s all I have to say about it, I think?

► I’ve seen some advertisements for [community profile] fantasybig_bang (which is more of a mini-bang, imo; the minimum is 5K), and I’m… kind of considering it? I haven’t decided for certain yet, but I do have a longer fic project that I’ve been wanting to write, and this could provide some outside encouragement. I’ll have to think on it—sign-ups don’t close until 01 May, so I have plenty of time.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed YoI! It's a good one to marathon, I think.

"I don't really feel fannish about it" is an understandable reaction... pretty much the same over here? I've written a couple of things but mostly ehh fannish, well, not so much.

It's a good thing to watch when I want to turn my brain off.

Agreed about Georgi's SP being hilarious, though. <3 Gotta love that evil witch.
