0015 | yuletide reveals!
So, Yuletide reveals, anyone? I've never done a reveals post before, so apologies for any missteps/awkwardness.
As I (think I) mentioned before, I wrote a total of three fics for Yuletide, which is both less than I wanted to and more than I thought I would.

Summary: Chihiro returns, for a little while.
This was my assignment! And I admit, when I received it I seriously started second-guessing my ability to write for this fandom. I knew I wanted to write Chihiro returning to the spirit world, and since the recipient asked for Haku and Chihiro, I knew it'd be pairing-fic. Outside of that, however I was uncertain, especially after I rewatched the movie— it's just such a perfect movie. How could I live up to that?
I think the setting came into my mind first— the tall grass, the moonlight, the sounds of a river nearby. After that, something my recipient wrote in their letter made the line about Haku's "aging" pop into my head. Then came the idea of Chihiro going to a river spirit looking for something (I changed my mind about what that thing was a time or two), and the rest of the story fell together from there.
I really hated it when it was in its rough draft form, but eventually I managed to beat it into something I could gift without feeling like the worst sort of human being. I admit there are still a few things I'm not sure about— mainly the scene with the river spirit— but overall, I think I managed to tell the story I wanted to.

Summary: She thinks about the night of the ice storm, in the days and weeks after.
I'd never heard of the song before this Yuletide; I honestly only checked it out because of how much ViaLethe's author letter for it resonated with me. Actually finding the song— because, of course, I had to listen to it before writing something for it— was a bit difficult. If it is on YouTube, I could not find it. I eventually resorted to Tumblr to find it, and ended up listening to it 149 times, according to the "times played" counter. First I was just listening to it, then I let it play while figuring out the story I wanted to tell, and finally while actually writing it.
It's a nice song, and I'm glad I wrote for it. There were a few things I thought of later, that I wish I had added to the fic, but overall, I'm pretty pleased with what I ended up with.

Fandom: Princess Debut
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Sabrina (Princess Debut)/Isabel (Princess Debut)
Characters: Sabrina (Princess Debut), Isabel (Princess Debut), Cesar Dubois
Additional Tags: Friendship, Pre-Romance, Dancing, Yuletide Treat
Summary: Isabel still doesn't really know how to be a friend. Sabrina still doesn't have a partner for the ball at St. Lyon's. Somehow, it all works out.
Okay, confession time: Princess Debut is the game of my heart, or at least one of them. I've certainly played through it a ridiculous amount of times. It's silly and cheesy and words cannot describe how much I love it. So when I saw that someone had not only requested it, but asked for a femslash pairing (that I'd, admittedly, never considered before), I knew I had to write it. (Besides, how could I turn down the chance to replay the game? For research purposes, of course. *cough*)
The story popped into my head fairly quickly. KannaOphelia's letter mentioned she didn't mind the princes (minus Vince) playing a role, and before I knew it my favorite prince (which, luckily, turned out to be her favorite too!) had made his way into the fic. I've always loved the moments where Cesar's more thoughtful side shined through (or was otherwise hinted at), and enjoyed the chance to expand on that in this fic.
I did worry a bit about characterization— mainly Isabel's, but Sabrina's too, if only because of how the various options you could choose for her in-game makes her personality a bit inconsistent, and I wasn't sure which way I should go with her. I think I like the balance I eventually ended up with, though. (It also didn't hurt that my recipient seemed to think I got it right.)
And that about wraps it up! Yuletide was an incredible amount of fun for me this year (or, well, last year now), and I'm looking forward to participating next year. This year. I still need to get used to saying that.
