218 | Gaming Year in Review 2019
Time for my yearly overlook of the gaming I did this year!
Games I Beat in 2019:
OZMAFIA!! (Steam)
Hustle Cat (Steam)
The First Tree (Steam)
1bitheart (PCDownload)
The House in Fata Morgana (Steam)
Dark Parables: The Curse of Briar Rose (Steam)
Oxenfree (GOG Galaxy)
Lake of Voices (Steam)
Cinderella Phenomenon (Steam)
LiEat (Steam)
Tales of Symphonia (Steam)
Night of the Full Moon (Android)
The Huntsman: Winter’s Curse (Steam)
Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale (Steam)
All Games = 14
Visual Novels = 5
Other Games Played, Not Yet Beat
Seasons After Fall (Steam)
Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest (3DS)
Aragami (Steam)
Tangledeep (Steam)
A game released this year (2019): That would be Elsinore!
A game you can finish in a day: The First Tree probably had the shortest playtime (two hours), though it actually took me a few days to get through it. I… don’t recommend it.Elsinore, on the other hand, I did beat in one day, even though it’s much longer. Whoops;;;
A game you've been meaning to play: Definitely Tales of Symphonia.
A game chosen for you by a loved one: ...None;;; My poor brother.
A game you've previously abandoned: Both OZMAFIA!! and Hustle Cat fall into this category! That is, they were never “abandoned” in that I always intended to come back to them on that nebulous “one day”, but I did neglect both of them for 1-2 years. (Funnily, I ended up falling hard for OZMAFIA!! this time around, despite having bounced so hard off of it initially.)
A game that intimidates you: None of the ones that I beat fall into this category, but I do feel this way about Aragami at the moment… mostly because I had to stop playing it because I just couldn’t get past this one boss fight. I was enjoying the game up until that point, though.
A game you've already solved at least once: I actually didn’t replay any games this year.
A game with an unusual control scheme: Probably Oxenfree? That being said, nothing really stood out to me in a “!!! this control scheme is so fresh and amazing!” way this year, though there were some fluid/enjoyable ones.
A game you should have played when it was first released: Definitely, definitely Tales of Symphonia! I still loved it now, but I’m absolutely certain that it would have been infinitely more important to me—possibly getting near to Star Ocean: The Second Story levels of importance—had I played it as a preteen/teenager.
A game released before 1990: As far as I know, none.
A game you’d owned for a long time but had never played: I’m not sure if anything I played this year really falls into this category, as (afaik) I mostly played games that I’d bought within the last five years.
A game that has been the subject of controversy: I did get the impression that many people didn’t like OZMAFIA!!, though idk if I’d call that a controversy.
An award-winning game: Google tells me that Tales of Symphonia and Oxenfree both fall into this category. Beyond that, idk.
