Yes, I realize I posted less than an hour ago! I was actually intending to go do something completely different after I posted that, but then I spontaneously sat down and wrote up this wrap-up instead. This has been split into three sections this year.

Happy 2024!

And for me, happy truly is the key word here—I’m entering this year in a such a good place. 2023 had its ups and downs like all years do, but I’ve reached such a good place in my personal/real life this year. The kind of good that I was honestly worried that I’d never manage to achieve. So, I’m entering this new year feeling quite happy and hopeful for the future. /sappy

► Every year, I tell myself I’m going to do the [community profile] snowflake_challenge again—and every year since my last successful attempt in 2017(!), I’ve failed at that. But not this year! At the time of my typing this, we’ve reached Day 2 of the prompts.

Day One’s prompt was to update your fandom information on your profile. I don’t really have an introduction post in the traditional sense, nor do I particularly feel the need to have an in-depth profile—I left those things behind back when I left lj. But there is one thing that I have changed my mind about, and that’s the interests portion of my profile. Again, it’s something that I used back in my lj days, but have always left blank here on dreamwidth—but now, that’s no longer the case.

Granted, it’s been so long that I’m not entirely sure what makes for “good” interests to include on it anymore, but regardless! I can always fiddle with it later; the important thing is that it’s no longer empty.

Day Two’s prompt is to set some goals for the coming year. I think that, fannish-wise, the main thing I’d like to do is make more space for writing again in my life. More specifically, I would like to finish some of my old WIPs—and even more specifically, I would really like it if I could tackle a good chunk of my list of Scum Villain WIPs—but really, the main point is writing, and taking joy in doing so.

► As the above suggests: I’m still rolling around in my Scum Villain revival feelings, yes. ♥ I’ve now finished reading the official translation—volume 4 was literally my final book of 2023, and I finished it on the final day of the year. Honestly, can’t think of a better note I could have ended it on <3 The intensity of my love for this novel knows no bounds.

► Here’s my usual gaming year in review round-up for 2023: beneath the cut )

► Still need to do my writing wrap-up—I haven’t looked what needs to go on there yet, but based on my memories, it should be a short one—but I’ve run out of time to do so before I need to go to bed, and I would like to post this entry tonight, so I’m just going to post what I have now and see about doing that + a few other things I wanted to write about next time.

► Here’s my gaming year in review for 2022! And another year where I’m late with this (though, in my defense, I did start on this entry about two weeks ago—I wandered away distracted at some point and just didn’t get back to it up now. Which isn’t that much of a defense, haha.)

beneath the cut )

► And here is my writing year in review as well—aka the reason why I procrastinated so hard on making this update. In the spirit of perfection being the enemy of good, I think I’m not going to do most of my usual questionnaire, since I really didn’t write that much—just list what I wrote, a few stats, and my overall feelings on my writing year.

I realize we’re already just about finished with the first month of the year, but I thought I’d throw up a (very brief) post about my gaming in 2021 anyway. Skipping my usual questionnaire this year, mostly because I don’t feel like I really did enough gaming to justify answering the questions.

I just realized that I probably won't have time to post tomorrow (not unless work lets me out early like they did on Christmas Eve, which, would be nice! but I'm not going to depend on it), so I decided I'll post my end-of-the-year wrap-up posts now.

First up, my gaming year in review!

This year, my gaming list was a bit more difficult than usual to compile due to the itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice—there were a lot of games I played only a little bit of before setting aside. Ultimately, I decided that I’d only put games in my “Other Games Played, Not Yet Beat” list if I’d actually gotten to the point where I logged them into backloggery as well.

(I also didn’t include games that I played two-player on with my brother, but, then, I never do.)

Now for my 2019 writing wrap-up! I know that I always posted this to my fic journal in the past, but seeing as I fell off of the “keeping it updated” bandwagon earlier this year, I feel like it’d be more appropriate to post this to my personal journal this year.

► So, I wanted to do a gaming update for 2018 like I did for 2017, but… well. My gaming took a definite nose-dive this past year, mostly because of real life. I only finished five individual games this year, which is not really enough to make answering that questionnaire worthwhile. I did still want to post my list of which games I played, though, so I’ll at least do that. beneath the cut )

► As long as I’m talking about visual novels— a few weeks back, I stumbled across this interesting article: An in-depth look at what otome players want.

It’s based on a survey that this person did, and the results really rang true to me. Particularly their findings in regards to players who don’t self-insert versus those who do. If you’re interested in otome games, I’d recommend checking it out— it was an interesting read.

► Yes, I’m still playing OZMAFIA!!. Most recently, I just finished up all the endings for the main three (Caramia, Kyrie, & Axel), including the transferred affection endings. I have a lot to say! —Mostly about the transferred affection endings, because I took pretty detailed notes for those, but I do have comments on the Caramia and Axel routes overall as well.

spoilers, images, and a truly ridiculous amount of words beneath the cut )

tl;dr the transferred affection routes/endings were universally and overwhelmingly better than the standard routes! (I was about to say “with the exception of the love triangle sections”, except it’s not like those sections were any better when Fuka sticks with her original LI, so.)

► I’m still not 100% decided on whose route I’m going to do next now that I’m done with the main three, though I’ve narrowed it down. I did google the recommended route order, and more beneath the cut )

...I also wanted to talk a bit about one of my theories for something that didn’t show up in the main three’s routes / that I am now thinking might show up in the brothel or Robin Hood routes, if it shows up at all, but the above turned out to be so much longer than I thought it would be (almost 6K!!! holy hell), and I am exhausted. ….Seriously, this update took me so long to write. I really should have updated more in-between if I wanted to talk about this playthrough in that much depth. Someone save me from myself. ;_;

► Unlike the rest of this entry, this has nothing to do with OZMAFIA!!, but I also posted my usual writing wrap-up post for 2018 over here.

► My 2017 writing wrap-up post can be found here.

► I’ve stumbled a bit on my usual (and planned) end-of-the-year posts—as in, I haven’t made most of them. I’ve made a short list of my yearly favorites, but haven’t gotten around to doing all my usual graphics, etc. for them, and...quite frankly, don’t really feel like doing it? I know I’ll miss it in the future, though, so I might make a backdated post for it later on.

► But what I will do right now is a gaming update on 2017.

It’s that time of the year again, when I talk about my favorite media consumed in the past year. This year, I have no anime listed, mainly because I spent most of the year without any internet connection, and so only managed to finish up one series. (Grimgar of Fantasy & Ash, if you’re curious.) I did put a podcast category, because I ended up listening to a lot of podcasts this year.

And now, for the actual lists. Like last year, I’ve put everything in vaguely alphabetical order. cut for length + many images )

One of my old "traditions" that I started up again last year was to do a retrospective on my fic-writing year at the end of the old year / beginning of the new year. Here's the link to this year's write-up:

Writing In 2015

It’s the last day of the year… which means that it’s about time I started on my usual end-of-the-year posts! This time, I’m going to start off with my yearly favorites.

I know that I usually include movies in these posts, but...I actually can’t remember watching any movies this year? I know I rewatched Labyrinth for the Trick or Treat exchange, and I know I rewatched the Winnie the Pooh Christmas/New Year’s movie on Christmas, but I can’t remember watching anything else.

Everything is in vaguely alphabetical order.

Back when I filled this out on my old account, I always only ever posted the results to my fanfiction journal. And while it's tempting to just do that, one of my goals for this year is to be a bit more open about my writing, and a bit less shy with sharing it. No, self, posting fic to a journal no one knows about doesn't count.

So, I'm linking you all to it now. This was actually meant to be posted this morning, but our internet stopped working just as I was posting it, and only came back just right now.

(beware the fake cut)

So, I kind of fell off the posting-every-day-this-month bandwagon, but that doesn't mean that I've forgotten about my yearly traditions! (Though, um, I'm not sure if I actually want to do my questionnaire this year.) Here is my top favorites from the various forms of media I consumed this year. ♥

I know that Yuletide reveals just happened, but I'm likely not going to post my reveals post until tomorrow, when it's actually January 1 in my timezone. Look out for it!

Everything is in no particular order.

► Today I am meant to talk about books I Just Finished. Well, this should be fun. This is actually rather fortuitous timing, because this topic segues nicely into something that I was thinking about yesterday / considering writing an entry about.

Yesterday, I finished reading Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. This is actually the first time I've ever read it, and I only did so because 1) I had finished reading my last read-while-I-wait-for-things book on my phone and 2) it came already installed on my Google Play Books on my phone. I've disliked the Disney movie since I was a kid, so I didn't really have high hopes for it.
we found wonderland / you and I got lost in it / and we pretended it could last forever )

► Do any of you remember that meme where you post the first sentence of the first entry for each month? I saw it popup on my flist some days ago, and it made me really want to do it again— I used to do it, and I can't remember why I stopped.

Without further adieu, 2014:
under this cut! )
In conclusion: I really need to stop beginning entries— and sentences in general— with the word "so".
