Skipping day 3 of the [community profile] snowflake_challenge (mostly because I couldn’t think of anything in particular to post for that prompt), and moving on to day 4!
Since this is the start of a new year, this challenge will be to set your own goals! Of course we can all make large or ambitious goals, remember that small and/or short goals are also good!
This is actually a pretty well-timed challenge prompt, in that it merges well with a post I’d been wanting to make soon anyway. I won’t actual be doing general goal-setting in this post, because I’ve already done that in other spaces—real life goals in my bujo, creative goals in a discord server I’m in, not to mention my usual vague writing thoughts in my 2024 fic writing wrap-up post—but there is an intention that I haven’t noted down anywhere yet, and wanted to.

Which is to say, gaming. self-indulgent rambling beneath the cut )

Anyways. The actual point of all of this is that I saw someone on my flist make a list of ten games from their backlog which they want to get through in the coming year, and I really liked that idea! So here’s my list of games that I already own and would like to prioritize this year, broken down in vague categories.

ten games I want to play/beat in 2025
already started
1. Pokémon Moon (3DS)
2. Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life (Steam)
3. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond (Switch)

technically already started, but would need to restart
4. Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood (DS)
5. Digimon World Dusk (DS)
6. Mages of Mystralia (Steam)

have started or played a different version, but not this one
7. Star Ocean: First Departure R (Switch)
8. Star Ocean: The Second Story R (Switch)

completely unstarted
9. Cinderella Evermore (Steam)
10. Spirit of the North (Steam)

Another year, another round of the [community profile] snowflake_challenge!

Today's prompt was:
Update your fandom information. Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
—which I think is the usual starting prompt for this challenge? I nearly skipped it, but I decided to take a look at my various profiles (namely, dreamwidth and AO3) to make sure that everything is how I want it. I did end up adding a few interests to my profile, so I suppose I did get something out of it?

Mostly, I'm just happy that it's this time of year again, and quite determined to do my best to complete as many of the challenges as possible this year! I did fairly well last year—better than I had in many years, even if I still didn't manage all the posts I wanted to do, so fingers crossed that I can manage similar levels of participation or better this time.

► The prompt for Day Ten of this year’s [profile] fandom_snowflake is to make a list of five things. Within like five seconds I went from “having no ideas as to what I can make a list about” to “having too many ideas”. Then I almost went into overkill mode (aka: making five different lists of five things each), but was saved by the fact that I couldn’t settle on which of my list ideas should be the “fifth thing”.

So now, I’m simply sharing the only one which I actually got around to writing during this whole progress, namely, a list of five exchanges that had a particular importance to me of some kind at one point in my life or another.

Or, in other words, it’s basically an abbreviated history of me + multifandom exchanges in the form of a five things list. beneath the cut )

► In other news… Femslash February prompts! I can’t remember quite where I came across this (the EAD discord, maybe?), but someone somewhere shared this bingo card mixing the “dark” and “light” prompts. Original tumblr post here. and the image beneath the cut )

Idk if I’ll end up writing anything for it, but the prompts (and especially the prompt combos) are quite good. It doesn’t even need to clash with my “finish WIPs” goal for the year, since I do have a few beloved f/f WIPs that would match up with some of the prompts…

an index of my fills for this year’s [community profile] snowflake_challenge, to help me better keep track of what I’ve done and what I still want to do.

So, I’ve fallen behind on the [community profile] snowflake_challenge, but as I meant to take this in a low-pressure thing in the first place, it's fine. I do want to tackle a few more of the challenges, however, so I’m going to play catch-up.

Day Three’s prompt was create a fandom wishlist, but—there’s not anything in particular I’m wanting? some tl;dr beneath the cut )

Day Four was tell us about yourself. beneath the cut )

I feel zero desire to do Day Five (link and description here), so skipping that one.

Day Six and Day Eight feel like they’d flow better as their own posts, so I’ll save them for another time. I also kind of accidentally did Day Nine without realizing it when I shared those links to my Three Sentence Ficathon fills in my last entry—the prompt was to rec the latest thing you made

So I’ll end this catch-up with Day Seven, which was to share a list of creative/fannish resources. beneath the cut )

Happy 2024!

And for me, happy truly is the key word here—I’m entering this year in a such a good place. 2023 had its ups and downs like all years do, but I’ve reached such a good place in my personal/real life this year. The kind of good that I was honestly worried that I’d never manage to achieve. So, I’m entering this new year feeling quite happy and hopeful for the future. /sappy

► Every year, I tell myself I’m going to do the [community profile] snowflake_challenge again—and every year since my last successful attempt in 2017(!), I’ve failed at that. But not this year! At the time of my typing this, we’ve reached Day 2 of the prompts.

Day One’s prompt was to update your fandom information on your profile. I don’t really have an introduction post in the traditional sense, nor do I particularly feel the need to have an in-depth profile—I left those things behind back when I left lj. But there is one thing that I have changed my mind about, and that’s the interests portion of my profile. Again, it’s something that I used back in my lj days, but have always left blank here on dreamwidth—but now, that’s no longer the case.

Granted, it’s been so long that I’m not entirely sure what makes for “good” interests to include on it anymore, but regardless! I can always fiddle with it later; the important thing is that it’s no longer empty.

Day Two’s prompt is to set some goals for the coming year. I think that, fannish-wise, the main thing I’d like to do is make more space for writing again in my life. More specifically, I would like to finish some of my old WIPs—and even more specifically, I would really like it if I could tackle a good chunk of my list of Scum Villain WIPs—but really, the main point is writing, and taking joy in doing so.

► As the above suggests: I’m still rolling around in my Scum Villain revival feelings, yes. ♥ I’ve now finished reading the official translation—volume 4 was literally my final book of 2023, and I finished it on the final day of the year. Honestly, can’t think of a better note I could have ended it on <3 The intensity of my love for this novel knows no bounds.

► Here’s my usual gaming year in review round-up for 2023: beneath the cut )

► Still need to do my writing wrap-up—I haven’t looked what needs to go on there yet, but based on my memories, it should be a short one—but I’ve run out of time to do so before I need to go to bed, and I would like to post this entry tonight, so I’m just going to post what I have now and see about doing that + a few other things I wanted to write about next time.

► My Mystic Messenger update: I spoke too soon re: Zen’s dorkiness. ♥

cut for an unrelated and vague spoiler )

► I absolutely love today’s Fandom Snowflake Challenge.
In your own space, post recs for at least three fanworks that you did not create.
Some of you may have picked up on this by now, but… I really love making recs. ♥ My criteria for recs this time around was “the first three fics that occurred to me when I thought, what should I rec?”.

► My Mystic Messenger update of the day: vague spoilers for the end of Day Five/Day Six )

► I ran across an AMV rec on FFA (well, several, actually, but I only watched the one for the anime I knew), and now I want to pass it forward. It’s Death Parade - Lorem Ipsum, and I thought it pretty well-made. (And hey, an excuse to use my Death Parade tag again! I honestly thought that wasn't going to happen.)

It’s been years since I last regularly watched AMVs… I don’t know if I miss it, per se, but I do still appreciate a good video. I might check out more of this person’s AMVs later. idk.

► I was waiting for the Day Three post of the Fandom Snowflake challenge to go up before posting this so that I could include it too, but… I think I’m going to skip out on this one. One thing that I’ve figured out over the years is that setting monthly and yearly goals don’t really work for me (as much as I love to read about other people’s goals and how they do on them). Setting daily and weekly goals (while keeping the broader picture of what I’d like to eventually achieve in the back of my mind) works much better for me.

► So, never did get around to writing a second entry yesterday. But that’s alright, because I can do it now. First, a link to the end-of-the-year writing meme I always do: 2016: Writing Year In Review.

► Second: A quick update on my Mystic Messenger playthrough. It’s Day Five now, and SUCCESS. I got onto Zen’s route! I didn’t end up running into a bad ending after all! I was a bit worried about that, since I was also getting a lot of hearts from Jaehee and Yoosung… I actually wasn’t sure if I had enough of a majority with any of them to get on a route at all, tbh. But I did, and it was the one I wanted to do first, so I’m happy. ♥

briefly cut for possible spoilers, though I personally don't think it's anything too important )

► Finally: The Fandom Snowflake Challenge! I missed Day One, and while I know that I can still go back and do it, I think that I’m just going to let it pass by. Instead, I’m going to focus on Day Two.
cut for those who’d rather skip it )
