300 | ten games for 2025

Skipping day 3 of the [community profile] snowflake_challenge (mostly because I couldn’t think of anything in particular to post for that prompt), and moving on to day 4!
Since this is the start of a new year, this challenge will be to set your own goals! Of course we can all make large or ambitious goals, remember that small and/or short goals are also good!
This is actually a pretty well-timed challenge prompt, in that it merges well with a post I’d been wanting to make soon anyway. I won’t actual be doing general goal-setting in this post, because I’ve already done that in other spaces—real life goals in my bujo, creative goals in a discord server I’m in, not to mention my usual vague writing thoughts in my 2024 fic writing wrap-up post—but there is an intention that I haven’t noted down anywhere yet, and wanted to.

Which is to say, gaming. I love video games, and I consider it one of my core hobbies—it would make the top three list, always. But I don’t always feel like I’m good at prioritizing gaming, and specifically in prioritizing playing the games I actually want to play.

Part of this is simply because of the obsessive chokehold my actual permanent number one hobby, reading, has on my life (I was going to share stats or examples, but then I realized it was too embarassing; I am NOT joking about how obsessive I can get about it). I’ll never do the same amount of gaming as my older sibling (who has nearly 700 games logged on backloggery and straight-up doesn’t have a backlog???), simply because I don’t and can’t prioritize it in the same way.

But I do think there’s room to improve, particularly in regards to being more intentional about my gaming, how I do my gaming, and which games I play. I feel like I made a pretty good start on this towards the tail end of last year, and I’d like to try to continue that.

Anyways. The actual point of all of this is that I saw someone on my flist make a list of ten games from their backlog which they want to get through in the coming year, and I really liked that idea! So here’s my list of games that I already own and would like to prioritize this year, broken down in vague categories.

ten games I want to play/beat in 2025
already started
1. Pokémon Moon (3DS)
2. Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life (Steam)
3. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond (Switch)

technically already started, but would need to restart
4. Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood (DS)
5. Digimon World Dusk (DS)
6. Mages of Mystralia (Steam)

have started or played a different version, but not this one
7. Star Ocean: First Departure R (Switch)
8. Star Ocean: The Second Story R (Switch)

completely unstarted
9. Cinderella Evermore (Steam)
10. Spirit of the North (Steam)

Good luck with the gaming! I'm in the same boat that I love video games but I don't play very many (or I just boot up Overwatch instead of playing anything I can make progress in lmao). People sharing their Steam Wrapped or whatever with a hundred games on them for the year and then I'm just sitting here like "I did 4 games :3a"

I guess all those short indie games add up when people actually PLAY all the games they get at Steam sales instead of just letting them sit untouched in their libraries jshdfksjdf

Yeahhh I've enjoyed live games, like I used to play Genshin, Honkai Star Rail, that kinda stuff, plus a ton of mobile games, but they're so time consuming and you constantly have to be logging in for new stuff. Then you've used up your gaming hour for the day and don't have time for regular games!
