To Be Sung On the Water
phantoms, all too created
The Witch's Swamp
Plus one redacted story/fandom, as the work in question hasn’t been revealed yet.
Total Posted Wordcount: 19123
Total Stories: 12 in 6 fandoms.
Fandoms I Wrote In For The First Time: Autumn's Journey
Number of Fics By Category
Gen - 6
F/F - 4
M/F - 1
Poly - 1
Longest Story: “The Witch's Swamp” (Stardew Valley) at approximately 5.8K. (This is not what AO3 says, but that’s because this is an IF piece, and is hosted off-site.)
Shortest Story: “The Return of Thunder” (Fire Emblem: Awakening) at 302 words.
Like last year, most of the fics I wrote/posted were either for Battleship or Fic in a Box. Beyond that, there’s only two other things I’d like to note about this writing year.
First of all, this is the first time I’ve posted fic for Fire Emblem Fates! This is striking to me, partially because I have WIPs for it dating back to 2020, but mostly because my WIP folder for that fandom is one of the ones I go to relatively frequently—I think of it as a fic-writing fandom I’m actively engaged in. And yet, I hadn’t posted any fic for it.
The other thing I’d like to note is that this year marks the first time I’ve written an IF fic! I’ve wanted to do so since like… 2015 or 2016, I think? I was very pleased that the stars finally aligned on that one. It helps, I think, that I had a very clear concept and structure for this one. For regular fic, I usually only have loose outlines which often change or are otherwise adjusted throughout the writing process. It does make sense to me that something with multiple branches and endings would need a firmer outline to keep things in check.
I wrote it in Ink, and had a lot of fun with not only the actual writing of it, but also the coding bits as well. The euphoria and sense of triumph I felt when I finally, finally figured out how to have a certain dialogue option have a percentage chance as to whether it’d lead to one ending of the other… indescribable. It was such a satisfying project.
For this coming year, one thing I'd really like to manage is to finish up some of my WIPs. Particularly, I'd really like to finish at least some items on the rather lengthy WIP list I have for Scum Villain, though I wouldn't complain if I tackle ones from Fire Emblem Fates or other fandoms as well.
