358 | a fannish dream (in the literal sense)
I don’t think I’ve ever anticipated the release date of a book like how I’m anticipating the release of the sequel to Long Live Evil. I’m not a “day of release” kind of girl in general, when it comes to my media—I’m often the one kicking back and waiting for the price to drop instead. But with this book, I've preordered it, I have the actual release date memorized, and while it’s not an all-consuming obsession, I have been thinking about it quite a bit over the past few days especially, trying to “plan” my reading of it (as well as, hopefully, yet another reread of the first book in the days before) in a way that’s very much not the norm for me.
This is probably why I ended up dreaming about the book the night before last. I dreamed that Long Live Evil had a movie adaptation, and somehow, both it AND the sequel movie came out before the actual book version of All Hail Chaos? Which does not make sense, but hey, dreams! In the dream, I hadn’t seen the first movie, but someone wanted to watch the second one with me. For some reason, though, the sequel movie began with the ending scenes from the first book—the first movie's plot had ended earlier than the book's. I watched that part, had many criticisms of how they handled it—in particular, they got Key’s characterization all wrong, haha, though there were some very cool visuals with masks and gleaming metals and fun ~symbolism~ that I enjoyed. After that, though I had to stop watching, because the rest of the second movie was (obviously) new territory for me, and I didn’t want it to be spoiled for the book, which disappointed the people I was watching the movie with.
