302 | three sentence ficathon 2025 round-up

I’m hoping to write more, but for now, I want to share a round-up of of my fills for the [community profile] threesentenceficathon so far! Plus one fill-fail that I still posted to AO3 separate from the ficathon because I liked it.

288 | iddy iddy bang bang 2024 reflections

I meant to write this entry nearly a month ago, but I’m only getting around to it now, oops.

This year, I successfully completed [community profile] iddyiddybangbang for the first time. This was fairly special to me for multiple reasons! self-indulgent musings beneath the cut )

283 | battleship 2024 wrap-up!

Creator reveals have happened for [community profile] battleshipex! Meaning this year’s round is officially over, though I still have like five things on my WIPs list that I’d still like to write as late treats. (Or. Four as late treats—the last is a concept that I came up with for gameplay reasons, but never had an actual recip for, so I’m probably going to post that one outside of the collection once/if I write it.) Now that it’s over, I want to share what I made! And, to steal an idea from [personal profile] shadaras, I’m going to also look at some more precise stats for what I made as well.

In total, I wrote 12 works for a total of 18K. This is very close to being double my previous Battleship best! For reference, in 2022 I wrote 9.4K across 9 fics, while in 2023 I wrote 8K across 7 fics.

Another note: an unofficial stretch goal I set for myself before the game began was to post at least one thing for each phase of the game. I was actually pretty sure that I would fail at this, particularly since I was very bad at the boss battles last year, but wanted something to strive for—instead, I actually managed to post not just one, but at least two things for each phase! Honestly, I’m a little bit impressed with myself for both of those things, especially considering that I’d usually consider myself a slower writer. I was not joking when I said that I lost my chill this year! And had the best of times doing so. ♥

Here are the fics I wrote, organized by which phase of the game I’d posted them for: beneath the cut )

Of those, my personal favorite is the river drowns itself (SVSSS), but I’m also particularly fond of every monstrous hungry part of you (SVSSS), that one may smile, and smile, and be a villain (SVSSS), and strawberry blossoms (Stardew Valley)!

Now, more stats! Again, this section is inspired by [personal profile] shadaras’ wrap-up. beneath the cut )

Today, I bring a pair of memes!

► The first is taken from [personal profile] tinkaton:
Title Tag Game Rules: write out any fic titles you have that are based off of lyrics, list what songs they're from, and tag some writers.
In reverse chronological order: beneath the cut )

► This next meme isn't taken from any one particular person; I’ve seen all over my flist lately.
Rules: go to your AO3 account and find the following:

268 | a moment of self-indulgence

I mentioned in a previous post that I’ve been reading Copper Coins along with the cnovel thread bookclub over at FFA. Normally, I save all my thoughts on it for those discussions, but there was a scene in the latest chapters that caught my attention for a very very self-indulgent reason that I couldn’t talk about over there, but still wanted to make note of somewhere.

264 | update on high rollers: aerois + more musings on karma

Reading: Books-wise, I’m a bit less than halfway through The Burning Stone by Kate Elliot. It is… a project. Oh, and I’m also slowly working through Copper Coins in tandem with the cnovel thread bookclub over at FFA. In terms of manga, I just read the first volume of Lovesick Ellie this morning, which was an absolute delight.
Listening: Still High Rollers: Aerois! I took a break back in December to catch up on Fic Clique, my beloved, but then I went back on the Aerois train, and it’s one of the reasons why I’m making this update now.
Playing: Nothing since my replay of Karma’s route in Cinderella Phenomenon last weekend. Though I did buy a copy of Evermore a couple of days ago, so maybe that soon?
Watching: Mostly just journaling videos on Youtube. I’ve also been slowly, slowly watching Pluto with my brother at the pace of one episode a week and have been enjoying it thoroughly <3
Writing: I think I’ve slowed down on the Three Sentence Ficathon fills, so nothing actively, technically.
I have such a long list of things I want to make entries about (most Snowflake Challenge-related, but not all), which is honestly kind of a delightful problem to have, considering the usual state of affairs! Today, I think I’m going to tackle a general media round-up, starting with that rapidfire version that I sometimes use (seen above), and then talking about all the little media-I’m-consuming-related things that I’ve been wanting to cover.

► It’s been a good long while* since I talked about my progress with High Rollers: Aerois! Like I mentioned above, I’ve reached episode 15, “The Ironwick Mystery”. (as in, I listened to the very first few minutes of part one this morning while doing the dishes).

*I just checked, and apparently the last time I made an update, I was six episodes in. So I’ve literally doubled my episode count since the last time I recorded my ongoing thoughts and reactions!
spoilers beneath the cut )

► In my last post, I mentioned that there was something I wanted to comment on in regards to Karma’s non-Lucette interpersonal relationships in Cinderella Phenomenon. beneath the cut )

► Finally, another update listing my fills for the [community profile] threesentenceficathon:

—Which may also be the last one? I’ve definitely slowed down, in any case.

260 | three sentence ficathon 2024 round-up

To my surprise, I’ve been pretty active in this year’s round of the Three Sentence Ficathon [community profile] threesentenceficathon—more so than I’ve ever been in any of the previous years! Here’s a round-up of what I’ve written for it so far (mostly AO3 links):

243 | 2022 gaming and writing years in review

► Here’s my gaming year in review for 2022! And another year where I’m late with this (though, in my defense, I did start on this entry about two weeks ago—I wandered away distracted at some point and just didn’t get back to it up now. Which isn’t that much of a defense, haha.)

beneath the cut )

► And here is my writing year in review as well—aka the reason why I procrastinated so hard on making this update. In the spirit of perfection being the enemy of good, I think I’m not going to do most of my usual questionnaire, since I really didn’t write that much—just list what I wrote, a few stats, and my overall feelings on my writing year.

219 | 2019 Writing Year in Review

Now for my 2019 writing wrap-up! I know that I always posted this to my fic journal in the past, but seeing as I fell off of the “keeping it updated” bandwagon earlier this year, I feel like it’d be more appropriate to post this to my personal journal this year.

146 | SSSS updates! ...and I inflict myself with too many tiny crossover ships

► Pretty much the first thing I knew this morning was that Stand Still Stay Silent had updated, and I was/am filled with so much excitement that I didn’t even care that I hadn’t finished that short fic* I wanted to write before the chapter started. It’s updating!

The page itself already made me feel all teary and aching, so… that’s promising? Ugh, Lalli. ♥

* on the bright side, it did inspire me to get my butt into gear and stop worrying about whether it was too OTT with its angst long enough to write the last one hundred words needed and post it?

► So I’ve been watching FFA’s 100 words of something threads for a while now, and recently have been trying to write for them. Late yesterday, it occurred to me that I hadn’t even looked at what the themes were for the latest post, so I decided to at least look at them even though I was already pretty tired at that point. And then I mourned, because so many of themes were right up my alley, but I was tired and didn’t want to write.

Anyways, I bring this up because one of them was “100 words of death on a beach”, and of course I immediately thought of brief SSSS spoiler, I guess? ) But I’ve also been reading the Kalevala, and suddenly thought about Aino too, and the end result was… I think I have a new crossover ship? Aino could meet her in the water! It would be perfect! I’ve already started poking at a potential fic, though idk if it’ll ever get anywhere.

Then I went, “oh, poor Kyllikki, I’m taking her water-maiden girlfriend away from her”, and then it hit me like a speeding sledgehammer to the face: Sigrun/Kyllikki. Idk how it would even happen— time travel accident? Sigrun just being an awesome Norwegian warrior woman tromping her way through Finland?— but I think we can all agree that Sigrun would make a much better husband than Lemminkäinen, y/y?

...And then I started thinking about whose personalities would actually complement one another’s best, and got hit with Tuuri/Kyllikki. They’re both social! They could travel the world and hang out with lots of people!

AND THAT was the point where I realized that I needed to stop thinking about this before I ended up with approximately half a million crossover ships for two tiny fandoms.

► Right, I’m past due for a round-up of my fic. So:

141 | in which I start Crisis Core & ramble on about the Liar! series

► I’ve been (slowly) making my way through Crisis Core. Right now, I’m at the point wherecut for spoilers/length )

► I know I haven’t really been talking about Liar! Uncover the Truth here (mainly because I haven’t had much to say), but I played through the last one standing’s lover’s route about a week ago, and I had thoughts. spoilers for the final liars / who the last one standing was )

► I’d been planning on doing the 6th and 7th Uncover the Truth liars’ lover’s routes after I finished with that one, but then Liar! Office Deception decided to celebrate its release with 1) ten tickets per day until 9 June, and 2) a very tempting reward (which, if my eyes did not deceive me, includes Azusa!) if you finished the 6th liar of Office Deception before 15 June, so… I started paying that instead.

I’m finishing up the 3rd liar now, and… I kind of love it? Possibly even more than Uncover the Truth. The main character is a dream. The only downside is that there are three potential liars that I’m already really attached to as people (as opposed to having only one I really loved/hoped wouldn’t turn out to be a terrible person in Uncover the Truth). Hopefully one of them will be the last one standing, and none of them will turn out to have done something unforgivable.

► Some fic I've written since I last did a round-up:

138 | more Mystic Messenger, & more initial reactions to the Spring 2017 anime season

Mystic Messenger: omg, Jumin’s Bad Ending 01 was a DELIGHT. I thought I was going to hate it, but nope, it ended up being one my favorites so far! spoilers beneath the cut )

Speaking of A+ content, I also played through Seven’s Bad Ending 01 & 02. spoilers beneath the cut )

► More Spring 2017 anime first episode reactions! Which I should have posted at the beginning of this week at the latest, especially since I already had this portion of this update written then, but oh well. potential spoilers for the first episodes of Sakura Quest and KADO: The Right Answer )

Edit: Ahhh, I can’t believe I almost forgot about this, but I have another fic update.

135 | Mystic Messenger April Fool's Event: Good Ending, & poking around a bit in the fandom

► Yesterday, I got the good ending in Mystic Messenger’s April Fool’s Event. spoilers )

► I’ve started poking around in the Mystic Messenger fandom, and… it feels very young? Some of it is in ways that are very nostalgia-inducing (people giggling about something being their first fic, or their first try at smut, or other cute-but-naive-sounding comments in the summaries), but others are very...alien to me. brief digression/criticism )

The abundance of “baby’s first fic” or “baby’s first fandom” syndrome does mean that the overall fic quality… does leave something to be desired;;; I have found some pieces that I unabashedly like, but overall, most things that I’ve enjoyed, I’ve enjoyed with caveats. On the bright side, this does make me more confident about anything I may contribute to the fandom in the future? ^^;;;;

The fanart, on the other hand, is really great! I’ve actually been poking around on tumblr a bit because of it— mostly just looking up fanart. Here’s some of my favorite pieces:
Also, these two text posts are both so true.

► I haven’t been keeping up very well with sharing fic links for the things I’ve written “since my last post”— mainly because all of my last few posts since I last wrote something have been a Mystic Messenger emotions train, and I didn’t want to distract from that.

123 | in which I start Jumin's route on Mystic Messenger, and share some of my own writing

► Since my last update, I finally started Jumin’s route in Mystic Messenger. Today I hit Day 5. Deep Story prologue + Jumin’s route Day 5 spoilers  )

It also turns out that the game doesn’t automatically change over when Daylight’s Saving Time does— it was first behind, then, when I exited and re-entered the app, it noticed it, but saw it as being in a different time zone;;; Still, as long as it works, I suppose I shouldn’t complain.

► Oh, I nearly forgot! Some years ago, I briefly posted links to what I’d written lately in my dw updates, in an attempt to counterbalance my habit of hiding my writing by posting most non-exchange fics to my fic journal exclusively and never sharing it anywhere. TO BE FAIR, I mostly do this when something’s really short, or if I’m not entirely happy with some aspect of it but feel too shy to go through the whole process of finding a beta (once I have a beta, everything’s good— I liked constructive crit; it’s just the finding part that’s a problem), but still.

My point in mentioning all of this is that I’m going to try start doing that again, starting now:

  • A Practical Proposal (Fire Emblem: Awakening, Chrom & Maribelle | implied Maribelle/Lissa, 1.1K)
  • New Beginnings (Fire Emblem: Awakening, Donnel/Maribelle | Maribelle & Donnel’s Mother, 1.6K)
  • Uncertainty (Shall We Date? Wizardess, Liz/Amelia, <1K)

► I also wanted to do an update on my Fire Emblem: Awakening replay, but I’ve a fair amount to say about it and this entry’s REALLY LONG already, so I’ll save it for another time. Soon, hopefully.

122 | Mystic Messenger, Chocolate Box Authors Reveal, a Fire Emblem: Awakening replay, & Wolf's Rain

► Still making my way through all of Yoosung’s Endings in Mystic Messenger. Since my last update, I’ve gotten Bad Ending 01, Bad Ending 02, and the Normal Ending. cut for spoilers )

► It’s… already been a few days since Chocolate Box authors were revealed, haha, but I wanted to share what I wrote! I wrote a few fics, but nothing longer than 1K. For Harry Potter, I wrote a Lucius/Narcissa fic and a Tom/Ginny, pre-Harry/Ginny fic. The former was my assignment. I also wrote Emma Woodhouse/Harriet Smith for Jane Austen’s Emma and Lucina/Severa for Fire Emblem: Awakening. (In unrelated news, I now have a new FE:A ship. :P)

► Speaking of which… between writing Fire Emblem: Awakening fic for Chocolate Box and receiving it, I got struck by the urge to replay the game. So that’s what I’m doing now. I’ve just finished Chapter 14. cut for spoilers and length )

►My big brother and I have started watching Wolf’s Rain together! God, it’s been ages since I’ve watched this anime— well over a decade, I think. We never finished it— we only knew it through renting a disc or two from Hastings. (I remember it as being only one volume— the first one. My big brother remembers watching the first two volumes. He has the better memory, so I’m tempted to defer to him.)

Speaking of which, I’d forgotten… pretty much everything about it? I remembered that the main characters were wolves, and that their human forms were illusions, and I had very clear memories of them standing on those pipes in the first city talking to one another, and a few bits of memory about how Kiba was re: Cheza, but that was about it. I’d even forgotten about some of the main characters! Kiba and Tsume I remembered pretty decently, but Hige and Toboe kind of blended together for me— I remembered there was a character who was the “youngest”, and I kind of remembered Hige’s character design, so when he showed up I went, “oh, he must be the youngest.”

One thing that strikes me: I remember when I was a kid, I was very focused on the “ooo, pretty boys!” bit, but now I’m very much focused on the fact that they’re wolves and that the human form is just an illusion. I just find it such an interesting concept? And I love the moments where it shows what’s happening underneath the illusion so much. ♥

We just finished up episode 8 tonight, and I’m cautiously intrigued by where this is all going. Post-apocalyptic futures with wolves, yess. ♥

107 | Dragon Friends Christmas Special, Mystic Messenger, & Yuletide Author Reveals: Welcome to 2017

► So I just realized that there was a Dragon Friends Christmas Special podcast???? I managed to listen to it in the dying hours of 2016, and it was SO GOOD. So, so good. I mean, it was basically two hours of Freezo and His Christmas Adventures, so it’s not surprising that it was amazing, but still. That was a delight. cut for spoilers, and probably length )

► In the last few days, I also got a new phone, because my old one was dying a slow, drawn out death. I bring this up because, now that I have a new phone, I’ve decided to start checking out some of the visual novels/otome games that have gotten so much love on FFA, starting with Mystic Messenger. So far, I can definitely see why this one is so beloved, even though I’m still baffled at the thought of a visual novel fandom having so many fics.

I’m on Day Four right now, and I am in love. cut for the usual reasons )

►This entry’s getting quite long, but I don’t want to leave it off without doing one last thing. Reveals have happened over at Yuletide, which means that it’s time for me to talk about what I wrote. I wrote five stories, which is a Yuletide record for me— and that was such a nice surprise, considering that I'd barely managed to write/finish anything else this past year!cut for length )

► I might actually get a second entry out today, because 1) I want to get my usual my-year-in-writing retrospective up, 2) the Fandom Snowflake Challenge has started and I’d like to do that as well, and 3) there was another end-of-the-year post I wanted to do, but forgot about yesterday. We’ll see if I get it all done— I still have a lot of real-life stuff that I wanted to do today too.
